Default Might be getting an S2K, had a few questions...

I'm possibly looking at a black 2000 with 63k miles on it. I was just curious as to any problems/recalls or anything that these cars had. I know Honda is known for their reliability and all. I did a quick search and found a couple recalls on taillights and seatbelts or something (I bookmarked it to look at later). I was also mainly concerned with this thing I've heard about sway bars giving out? There is a local person here that flipped his first S2K because his sway bar snapped or something and I was just curious as how to remedy that problem. Thanks and sorry for the newb questions I'm used to german cars haha. Never thought I'd consider a Honda!

I'm looking forward to an even better reliability record with my new S2K than I had with my Z3. Over 118K miles my 2000 Z3 was near perfect (I performed all maintenance and had dealer 30/60/90K inspections/services which probably average about $600 each).

I think I remember reading something about early model year S2Ks needing to get wheel bearing re-torqued (search the UNDER THE HOOD forum).

Do not hesitate - get a new or used S2K ASAP... driving it is addictive!

I haven't had any problems with mine unless they were self inflicted. I haven't heard of a single sway bar snapping unless it was at an autoX.

oh really. i'd def. be autocrossing and what not seeing as i'm so used to FWD and AWD i'd have to learn how to drive rwd properly. that's what i was also concerned about, i mean it's not a big deal but i was just wondering since there is a lack of traction control if it has a tendency to be twitchy easily or snap oversteer with no warning. i guess i'd just have to find the handling limit but i wouldn't do that with someone else's car.

my dad and i just got back from test driving a random one though, since he had never been in one before. it was fun.

Not sure how serious you are about staying in the stock class in autocross. If you're more about fun than serious competition, some springs/coilovers with a better springrate will help immensely in autocross.

I also came from a FWD car into the S and often found myself doing the whole power over thing on course. This is partially due to the rear-bias springs. I switched up to something stiffer up front, and it really helped even out the car when accelerating out of turns.

As far as I know, the early MY2000 S2000s had several recalls, none of them were significant as far as I am concerned (since I owned an early MY2000):

- The boot cover recall: The boot cover was replaced because it can interfere with the operations of the seat belts.
- The seat belt recall: The seat belts were replaced because they may not operate correctly if you push your seats all the way back to pinch the seat belts.
- The spark plug recall: The spark plugs were re-torqued with a new washer because they could work their way loose on some cars.
- The tail light recall: The plastic lenses for the tail lights would fade on some cars.

Those are the only recalls I remember for the MY2000. You can always go to any Honda dealer and given a VIN, they can look up what recalls have been performed and which ones have not yet been done. Recalls are honored by all Honda dealers. Good luck.

i'm going to go look at the black year 2000 one tomorrow. i'm excited, anything i should particularly look for? i'm buying it from a dealership i have a friend that works at so i trust him but still should it be a good idea to take it to a honda dealer and get them to give it a once over? how much would that cost? 50 60 bucks?
