Default My 2001 S

Hello everybody, I just wanted to introduce myself. my names Jesse and I bought an S2000 back in September and have been trying to rehabilitate it ever since. It's got 128k on the odometer. I work at car dealerships doing various work on the cars such as wetsanding, touchup, headlight restoration, windshield repair, leather repair etc. My one dealership had an s2000 on the lot and it piqued my curiosity. I've always been a big VW guy but I sold my last GTI because I got sick of front wheel drive cars, and loved driving rear wheel drive cars. So anyway I was never really big into hondas but I asked the manager how much they wanted for it. I picked it up for only $6,500 (it needed and still needs loads of tlc) But I fell in love with it immediateley, getting sideways on a left hand turn never gets old. It had been painted several times although it has a clean car fax, the body lines aren't exactly perfect, so I have my suspicions. I replaced the aftermarket "carbon fiber" hood and trunk which weighed more than the stock one with original oem parts and got it painted red (it was yellow). I sold the imitation mugen hard top that it came with (It was cracked and faded and fit terribly) and put on a new soft top with the glass back. Thanks Billman for the clutch fluid replacement advice, after emptying the reservoir a couple times and refilling it, I can actually get the car in reverse without turning it off! I also replaced the rotted out invidia N1 exhaust and aftermarket cat with a stock one. I'm basically trying to get this thing back to stock and then start modding it once I get the feel for what I want. I replaced the 18" offset black wheels that it came with for the ap2 wheels. I put new rubber on them, although the front and back are different brands, front tires are bridgestone re50's 215/45/17 and the rear are Kumho's 255/45/17. I have an issue with the car at highway speeds around 80MPH the car starts to feel snakey not shaky it almost feels like your driving on grooved pavement. Does anyone have any idea what that could be from? I checked the rotation on the tires and it's fine. I don't know if its an alignment or maybe a bent rim,the bushings feel fine. Any input would be greatly appreciated. This car is my baby and not a daily driver, I also want to start taking it to track days once I move to PA. My brother in law has a 2001 supercharged Miata and as long as I can beat him I'll be happy, haha. So anyway, just wanted to say hello to the S2k community and introduce myself. Any maintenance advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently residing in Northeast NJ but will be relocating to Lehigh Valley PA shortly. I'm looking to buy a OEM convertible top boot and K&N cold air intake, used in decent to good shape. So you can let me know if anyone in the area has got one for sale. Thank!

Jesse

Love the way you're approaching this.

Many cars purchased like this are mutilated.

A well used S2000 carefully returned to stock is something we'll see more and of as the years pass, and as one of the first your experience may be valuable.

Good luck with your work, there is a lot of good support/tips here

BTW, if you're a better driver you can stay with your BIL without boost.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I just feel that the s2000 is a real classic and I want to respect it as such. I've posted some pics to show before and afters. The before pics look way better than they did in real life the black hood was painted badly and had crows feet(cracking pattern in the clear/paint) and the "carbon fiber trunk was super ashy a fit horribly" the yellow paint was flaking and chipping and had some rust bubbling around the wheel wells.
