Default My New S2000!

Hey all, I just picked up an 03 last week and man do I love this car! So heres the thing, after I got the car my mom wanted to go for a test drive with me. On an open road with no one around I just wanted to show her a small taste of what the car was capable of and man did she freak. In second gear I brought it up to 8.5K while hearing her yelling shift! shift! shift! lol She was afraid I was gonna blow the motor. Now I explained the rev limit and ability of the car but she still didn't believe me that the car was going to be fine. So I wanted some feedback from you guys to show her that its fine to rev it up high once in a while.

Will the motor blow If I rev the car to 8.5K?

It's built for it.

Just be really careful with your shifting. If you mis-shift and force a mechanical over-rev above 9K, it could permanently damage the valve lifters. It may continue to run fine and then 10,000 miles later a valve drops into the cylinder and you have to buy a new engine.

But 9K is perfectly okay, and the limiter will prevent you from going over 9K as you accelerate in gear.

yeah, check oil weekly to get a feel for your usage, the s2k with the high rev limit uses oil (not burns)...

That's what the car was made for.
You need to update your profile to include your car.
