Had only 6200 miles, owned by an old couple who drive it infrequently. I test drove it and all seemed solid. The only things I didn't like were that the rear window was plastic and fairly foggy. I plan to go top down usually, so this is overlook-able.

The other thing that was of concern was that the rear passenger side tire was the spare and the other tires had more tread wear than I would have expected from a car with only 6k miles.

It was silverstone w/red leather (I want white w/red, but I'm willing to settle for this). The askng price is $19,990, but KBB is $18,200 (with an 'excellent rating). Thoughts? Advice?

 

I have owned two 2000 S200's, and I would not hesitate. If you are looking for a low mileage nice car this sounds perfect. If you are going to keep a vehicle you will pay above KBB for a 6,000 mile car. As for the tire I would replace them they are 6 years old. There is a product to polish the rear windows, Meguires sells it.

 

Rear passenger side is the spare? You mean the donut? If that is the case then I would be worried because you aren't supposed to put the donut on the rear.

KBB pricing is crap. They're always over or under inflated, and do not reflect the true value of the vehicle. NADA is what most dealerships and consumers use. "The Blue Book" got the boot a few years ago.

I'd say a fair price is around $19k, esp. since you're in California.

 

Sorry, that was a n00b moment for me. The rear passenger tire tread was different than the other three, so I'm assuming they got a flat and just got a mi-matched tire. If I do get this, I will definitely get new tires.

So I may make an offer for $19,000. I've heard that there are some issues with the MY00s (tranny, recalls, etc.). Should I be worried about these?

 

Wheels/tires are a given.... an engine with only 6200 miles is a rare find.

Price is always negotiable.

how long has that spare been driven on the rear? you can mybe knock off a few hundred bucks if that spare has been driven on the rear for a while. extra wear on the diff.
also ask if they have had any TSB work performed.

 

No real major issues. There were also some minor recalls that you can get done if they did not get it done. Tranny shouldn't have any problems, very very rarily it might pop out of 2nd gear will deaccelerating. Also might have a clutch buzz (no harm), but I don't even hear it unless I have been driving on on the twisties for a long time and lots of deacceleration.

Try offering less, worth a shot.

 

If the rear alignment goes out it can toast the tires pretty quick.

If the cars in good shape, go for it. Just plan a new set of shoes.
