New here - Should I get one
Hi all
I have been reading up on the forum for a while now and have been looking to get myself a S2000. I've always liked the looks of the S2000 and with prices dropping now could be a good time to get one. I have budgeted around £4000 mainly due to the mileage I do for work. We have another family car so this would my daily commuting car for myself.
Currently I drive a 2003 Celica and its been a brilliant car. Its got just over 200k miles on the clock and during the 7 years I've had it the car has never gone wrong. All I have had to replace is tyres, brakes and the usual servicing. Looking to replace the Celica with something as reliable and the S2000 ticks the box.
So what's putting me off I hear you ask. Well firstly I do a 80 mile round trip for work so fuel may be an issue. so the first question is what is the Honda S2000 realisticly like to give me terms of mpg.
Secondly I have always had FWD cars and though would be my first RWD. With the budget I have I know I would only be able to get an earlier S2000 without traction control. So my next question is are these cars difficult to drive?
This is a great forum and have taken a lot of info from here. I just need convincing with these 2 questions
Thanks

hello and welcome, I'm from Australia so this is gonna be in different units =P my S gets me about 420kms from about 38~40 litres of fuel. I hardly ever vtec it so I wouldn't know the fuel consumption if you took that into account.
I have a MY99 s2000 and it's my first RWD too, I don't drive like an idiot so I find it quite easy to handle...I've never driven mine in the rain though, don't intend to ^^ sorry I'm not of much help, maybe someone else can give you a more informative answer.
good luck!

Cheers decazo. I'm in Scotland and it almost always rains here. U think if I drive like you and save the vtec for those dry days with a long straight ahead of me I should be ok.
You are currently getting 29 mpg. I was hoping it would be higher than that but it's not that bad either.
Wife told me yesterday she doesn't think it's a good idea to get one. This alone made me even more determined to get on

It's not a difficult car to drive in my opinion. But you get lots of rain in the UK so good tires are a must. Fuel economy isn't horrid but not great by any means. Nobody buys this car for it's fuel mileage, or any rear drive roadster for that matter.
Yeah I think you should be fine, just get used to it first perhaps. I've been told by a lot of friends that I should take my car to a track or skidpan to get a feel of its limits but I haven't had the opportunity yet.
I think the fuel economy is pretty good compared to other performance cars.
Also what Adrenalize said is right.

Thanks guys. I know when most people are looking to buy a S2000 the first thing they think of isn't what's the mpg like but like I said this will be my main car used mainly for commuting to work. And seeing as I have recently bought a family car for my good lady to drop the kids to school, I can pretty much get what ever I like for myself.

I get anywhere from 20-25mpg. Also a side note if you are concerned at all about gas remember you have to use more expensive pump gas than what you used in your celica.
With this being your first RWD car just be cautious. It can and will bite if you don't know what you're doing.

Lol that's a good point. I'm 99% decided but its that 1% that's telling me that "you do over 400 miles a week, this is not the right car".......................... But I've wanted one for so long and it's not a lot of money. Maybe I could just keep it for a year. I'm 35 and my wife thinks I'm having a midlife crisis and to be honest I think I am
