Default New member, new S2K from Florida.

Hello,

My name is Cory(which I tried to use as a username).I just recently picked up a 2000 Silverstone w/black interior S2k with 92000 miles on it as a daily driver. I already own a 350whp KA-T 240sx that is used as a road course/weekend street car and a 1995 Impreza that used to be my daily until it was rallied out. It still runs, but I really wanted something that handled well on the street, trapped higher than 73mph, and didn't look like a hoopty. So, I came upon the S.

I paid $8500 for it due to some retarded thief trying to break into the car the night before I bought it and damaging the driver's side door lock. That knocked $200 off of the asking price. Other than that, it has the clutch buzzing problem due to an ACT clutch disk, a couple dings on the passenger side door, and a stumble at idle every once in a while. It drives great and none of these affect driveability at all. I tested it on my Racelogic Performancebox with an easy launch and it did 96mph with a 225lbs driver. I think it would do 98mph if I could launch hard and hit second a little harder. I am weary of any low gear drivetrain shocking due to the fragile rear end. The car used to be turbo'd with a Greddy turbo kit running 6psi. The previous owner returned it to stock. The previous owner compression tested it and found 1,3,4 to be 250psi and 2 to be 240psi. It is above spec per FSM, but the fact that they are even makes me comfortable. I have seen variances in gauges. For all I know, it may have a thinner Cometic head gasket(backwards I know) or something from its turbo days.

I mostly plan to drive it somewhat hard on the street and do track events in it when the 240sx is down. I already changed the oil to German Castrol. I'm definitely not looking to make any more power at this point. Goals for now are:

1) Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1s
2) AP2 intake valve spring retainers and keepers
3) Brakes (probably stock rotors w/either Carbotech or Cobalt friction pads) and stainless brake lines.
4) Eventually swap to an AP2 clutch setup(at least the clutch disk) to solve the buzzing issue
5) Hard top somewhere down the road.

I definitely don't want this to be my deep money pit. I still want to continue to modify the 240sx and not worry about it breaking rather than having two highly modified cars that are both broken or on the verge of. The 240sx needs so much stuff right now it isn't funny. So if I can get the S2000 cornering over 1g and reliable, I'll be happy.

I've already assessed that I probably won't need an oil cooler, as I don't plan on doing excessive lapping sessions in the car (especially in the summer). I will probably take the car out for 10 minutes max. Our local course I run a 57.4 on and I'm under .5g lateral for 23 seconds of that, so it is a lot of cornering. I will always run at least German Castrol and if the car starts getting tracked more than I thought, I will switch to Redline.

Anyways, enough track ramblings...

...

I am an S2k noob, but it looks just like the Nissan world to me. Search for what you want to know as it has probably been discussed in the past. I have been on the 240sx forums (KA-T.org as a moderator, FreshAlloy, NissanRoadRacing and a few others). I'm an avid Racecar Engineering reader.

This is my 240sx

There are more pictures and data acquisition charts from my Performancebox in the photobucket album.

I would also really like to keep this car looking nice. I am probably going to pick up a Zaino detailing kit and possibly have a friend of mine restore the finish as he owns a detailing shop with all the materials and know how. I have terrible attention to detail and patience with everything except for complex mechanics and electrical work.

Sorry for the long post.

Welcome Cory!

I think you may know our new s2ki Jax community organizer...he goes by Righteous-Spec. He's pretty big into the 240 scene and converted to the s2k about a year ago.

Pop into the Florida forum and say hello. We have frequent meets in the major metro areas. From your KA-T profile, looks like Jax may be closest to you.

BTW...if you aren't in the NoFla area and are parking outside anywhere along the I-4 corridor or south, you need to get seat locks. Seat theft is rampant in CenFla & SoFla.

Well I work/stay in Jacksonville through the week and go to Gainesville on the weekends or during any time I have off. I'm a member of INTMO in Gainesville. I am on nissan.240sx.net and am familiar with Righteous Spec. I saw his sticker on a friend's car(Brian Davis).

I have lived in Florida my whole life.
