New member w/ quick question
Hey guys, (long time lurker, first time poster here)
Im looking to purchase a s2000 here fairly soon and was curious about one im looking at.
I found a 2001 black s2k with only 1200 miles on it. (not a misprint, only 1200) It is in literally perfect condition. Bone stock with the exception of the upgraded chrome s2k wheels.
I think I can pick the car up for right about 22,000. You guys think this is a fair deal? Any problems you guys would see with getting a 5 year old car with that low of miles?
Also, does anyone know how much they charged for the chrome wheels as a upgrade back in 2001?
Thanks for the help guys,
-Eric

kelley blue book says 20k in excellent condition. It might be slightly different in your zip code but I wouldnt pay more than the book. He say why it only has 1200 miles on it?

Sorry I should have specified. Its at a dealer. Im finding that retail is around $21,500
I guess the reason it has so few miles is because an older guy purchased it for his wife who hated it from day one. Ended up just sitting in the garage.

Eric,
That's a very unusual car, so it's hard for us to give you a feeling of whether it's a reasonable price. I tend to agree with cthree, but a car like that is sort of in a class by itself and there isn't a lot of precedent.
As always, I tell people that if the car speaks to you (because of the color, condition, whatever), go for it if you're comfortable with the $$ situation.
If you follow the FAQ at the top of this introductions forum, you can find the pricing thread and look at what others are paying. An "average" 2001 is a LOT lower than the 22K you're looking at. But, again, this isn't an easy case to price.

Oh, with regard to your question... Be sure to change the hydrophilic fluids immediately if you purchase this car. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this has the original fills... That's particularly bad for brakes, clutch, etc.
With regard to motor oil, I'm not sure if I should advise you to change or not. I would (though not synthetic yet).

You should not go on Kelly Blue Book values, those are not the prices that dealers are selling the cars for, if I remember right it is an average of what dealers are asking. I would use edmunds, they give you a more "real world" price... of what you might expect to pay. I would print it off and use it as a price to barter with, you could still get it for cheaper. Don't ever let them give you the biz about it having such low milage that they aren't willing to give you a deal on it. If it's on the lot, not telling how long it's been there. Check out edmunds price guide:
