Default New Owner

Hey all,

After saving money for the past year or so I'm finally buying my first S2k.
Purchasing today.
I'm getting one that really needs some tender love and care and would really
appreciate some advice because it doesn't look like the previous owner looked
after it very well. I had my mechanic look at it, everything is fixable it
just needs time and money (which I'm ready for if needed).

So the first thing about it is that it's almost clocked 200 000kms, this guy
doesn't look like he cares and he's had it for 3 years so I was recommended
by my mechanic that it might need and engine flush. What oil should I use?
Does the brands matter too much.

Secondly, the head gasket needs a change, does anyone know roughly how much
it costs and what this will involve. Link videos if needed.

Thirdly, the catalyst converter needs a change (it rattles when starting up),
I'm thinking of getting a high flow cat to replace it, any other opinions/advice.

This car is completely stock but has damages here and there (paint, door handle
broken) and needs work so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert on cars but I'm really want to learn. Thank you for reading!!!!

Welcome to the forum! After purchasing please include as much relevant info about the car possible so the 'experts' can chime in where possible. This is one of the most informative forums on the WWW and you should be able to get most if not all the answers you're looking for.

Are you building the car to be more powerful/boosted later, if so then I would get a good '3mm' Head gasket now to avoid going back there later if you want to go Forced induction some day. One key advice I can give you about searching on this forums is that if BILLMAN says to do something a particular way then you better do it if you wish not to have any regrets. Whenever I search for DIY I put 'Billman' in the search. Example; "S2000 Timing Chain Tensioner DIY Billman" is what I would type in search bar/google if you wanted to take care of said issue.

Okay will do! Tbh I haven't decided if I want to make the car more powerful or not, I just want to make it healthier again but in case I do decide I want it more powerful I'll take your advice. Right now the car is completely stock but has so much wear and tear

+1 on the Billman250 suggestion. He is about as good as it gets regarding S2K issues. Welcome and all the best with your S.
