Thanks Chaz. I will try to take it easy. I'm going through the same process I went through when I was learning the performance envelope on my FJR1300. Basically, don't get on the gas until you've successfully lined youself up in the correct line and you can visualize your exit path. Doing just that today, I managed to have a whole heck of a lot of fun and not have any scary moments. In fact, I only heard the tired squeak once, made a mental note of the situation and calmed it down a bit for a while. I'm EXTREMELY worried about all the stories of guys spinning out with cold tires. But the Yokohama ES100's that are on there gripped pretty well on the dry pavement, and it was 45 degrees outside.
I'll still plan on being cautious. I'm going to save the real hard driving for the track and autoX events.

Welcome to the site, I have the same colour car as you, also purchased in DFW. In fact, you probably saw the advert for it on Autotrader if you have been looking out for a S2000 since October time.
I bought privately, I was lucky to be able to do this as I didn't need finance. Let's just say I got a great (under 20k) price! Mine had 26000 on it when I bought it, and I have now hit 30000 miles - 4k in two months!
As for the ES100s, my car has those fitted as well. I had the ES100s on 2 previous cars also, a TransAm WS6 and a Z3 3.0i. Never had any compliants about these tires although people on this site (and the North TX part of the forum) do not seem to rate them very highly at all.
As with any new car, take your time to learn how the car responds in various conditions and you'll soon be 'getting the back end out' for fun. The Z3 was my first RWD car, but I learnt a lot driving it first with TCS on, then turned it off after the first few months. By the time I got the WS6, I had a lot of confidence (or as much as you can build up learning to drive RWD in a $30k car that you really dont wanna wreck!)
I found the S2000 a bit nervous/twitchy on the ice we recently had, but every cloud has a silver lining: it was a good thing, I could feel the car telling me it was about to break traction and drift on the ice. Great feedback.
Anyways, see you about, I am the S2000 with tints and the Brit flag on the trunk if ya see me about, honk. I always wave to S2Ks!
Hey thanks mate. I've seen a few S2Ks driving around the Frisco area. I'll keep an eye out for the British Flag.
Speaking of honking ... the first thing I'm going to upgrade is the horn. Sounds like my first car, a 1977 Toyota Corona station wagon. I mean, come on. What's up with that?
