Hi Rick! I'm Dave.

For the most part, I do my own maintenance. These cars are pretty easy to work on yourself. I went through the "New Owner To Do" list posted in themikewoo's signature. I have also re-greased the shifter and clutch fork to address a clunky shift issue. Just got my Espilir springs yesterday---those go on in the Spring.

If you are handy, you can download the Service Manual in PDF (or shoot me an email address and I can send it). Or you can bring it on down to Shrewsbury and we can do it together.

There are Tech Days put on by user "freq" where the infamous Billman comes down from New York to service member cars. I had a new clutch installed and a valve adjustment done at the last one and highly recommend Bill's "Onceover" where he looks at everything on the car. Not sure when the next one is. Freq lives up near Allentown/Bethlehem.

I'd love the chance to see your car---mine was bought last May with 101k on the clock. Would like to see what one with 6400 miles on the clock runs/sounds like!

The oil change schedule for the '06 and later is determined by the Maintenance Minder and the engine computer. 7500 miles is the nominal interval so it won't hurt to change your oil. Same for the transmission and differential. Even I was able to do both these with the right wrenches, lubricants, and a pair of $4 bottle pumps. Download the '05 manual for the schedules. Read the maintenance section here, it's well thought out and full of good information.

I've had great experience with Bridgestones on several varieties and vintages of cars and the RE-11As are Tire Rack Rated as Ultra Performance a step above the "merely" Max Performance Michelins. I look at tire wear ratings and in my (limited) experience the softer 200 rated tires are better at cornering, etc; than 300 rated. There's a new Bridgestone RE-71R tire available later this spring that shaves a second off lap times at some Japanese track. No experience here as yet. The RE-11A tires are non-directional so they can be swapped side to side to equalize wear if necessary. They have a inner and outer side but the outer side stays outside when the wheels cross to the other side of the car.

I have a Silver '06 that would have been an '07 if it's been made about three weeks later. Looks exactly like yours but all black inside. Beautiful car! New to me last July from a big Honda dealer in Columbus with 38 thousand, (not hundred!) on the clock. Came with non-OEM wheels and Dunlap tires I swapped out for OEM wheels and Bridgestone RE-11As as fast as I could. Car is nearly completely stock but I couldn't resist the sound of the K&M intake and (while I swore I'd not do it!) there's an Invidia Q300 exhaust sitting in the garage waiting to go on the car. Look for this exhaust for sale if it's too loud! That's about it other than a CR shift knob and clear "JDM" side markers. All OEM parts have been preserved. Oh yeah, a shift beeper will go on as well. I've hit the rev-limiter a couple of times and don't like to.

I intend to take the Mid-Ohio race course one-day performance driving class in this car this spring. I've yet to hang the tail out -- probably thanks to the VSA and not my driving skills -- and want to do it the first time in a controlled location so I learn the proper actions. We all think we know how to drive and shoot but my shooting experiences have convinced me that self-taught skills no matter how good they seem can be inefficient or downright dangerous.

Motorcycle roads are ideal for this car. Some good sites on the web for these. She's off the ground and under cover until (probably) April so it's too early for me to run over to G'burg (although the tunnels are almost worth the trip).

Great info about the maintenance! I'm going to change the oil as well. Bought the car from Bridgewater Acura dealer in NJ. Apparently there are several members here maybe more who have bought S2000's from them. All of them very low miles and mint condition. Due to the weather, road conditons I'm having it shipped to me in a couple of weeks. Don't know if I'll be able to make the Gettysburg event. Why is being held so early? Will probably still have snow in the ground.

If I need tires will get the RE11A if they are still available. Otherwise the RE71R. Seems like Bridgestone is the tire of choice.

Did you install the K&N intake or just the air filter? Any change in performance? Did you have to tune the car?

The Mid-Ohio one day course sounds like a good idea. Are you planning to track the car on a regular basis?

We have a ton of great driving roads in this area and very anxious go back an retrace my motorcyle trips.

Take care,
Rick

My "expertise" with this car is all of 7 months and she's been off the road for 3 of them! There is a cornucopia of knowledge on this forum and new owners (like us) show up weekly -- almost as if these are still in production! These are not $200K "exotics" but many of us treat them like they were.

I'm in Cleveland but intimately familiar with Gettysburg (and the roads to and from) as my daughter (and my money) went to Gettysburg College. She graduated 4 years ago but we still go back. Not sure why the PA folks scheduled the event so early. Seems like wine tasting not history -- everyone has different reasons for the trip. I have to get my camper and boat out of the barn at the fairgrounds the first week in April and we had snow in both Cleveland and Gettysburg into April. The S2000 will go back on the ground around the same time if it's warm enough. My Avatar will change when that happens.

My now-violated intention was to keep the car stock. Collectable and valuable. Any changes have been and will be "bolt on." The K&N airbox adds a miniscule amount of power I assume but even if it doesn't the induction noise is worth the price (those PA Turnpike tunnels!). I added an AEM front shock tower brace and frame cover, both of which are mainly decorative.

There is a Berk high flow cat and Invidia Q300 exhaust system waiting my my garage. I can't pull the exhaust with the car on my lift and it's still too cold in the garage. Once the exhaust is fitted I'll get the car "tuned." Most likely via Hondata and the tunes available from folks here. Boxes of stuff are piling up in the garage...

I have no intention (remember that word?) to track the car beyond learning some of her limits at the Mid-Ohio course.

As for tires this car will be a "summer" car with primary use from May - October. If I put 5,000 miles on a summer even tires with a tread life of 10,000 miles will last two years. The RE-11A will be "obsolete" by then I suspect. The car is for fun, not transportation, so expenses like this (and annual fluid changes) should just be ignored (like those for my camper and boat).

Hey Dave,

Thanks for all the info. I did read themikewoo's signature. Good stuff there. I met the owner of Mugsy's Repair in York. He specializes in Honda's and Acura's. He was a master mechanic for Honda and decided to go out on his own 10 yrs. ago. He's worked on S2000's and did a major supercharge/tune etc project for one of his customer's S2000. He seems very knowledgeable about the car. So we made arrangements to have him change all my fluids....engine, transmission, brake, clutch, differential and probably a new set of Bridgestone RE11A's. Plus I have to get the full blown inspection/smog due to new ownership. But as time goes on and I get some experience from members like you, Billman and others, I would like to do the simple maintenance myself. I'm definitely interested in Tech Days. I assume that will be posted here? I would love to receive the Service Manual from you. My email is rickbridgman1@gmail.com Thanks!

We should get together and check out each other's cars. Mine is still at Bridgewater Acura in NJ. I made arrangements to have them ship it to my house. Just need to call them 7-10 days prior to when I want it.
I prefer to drive it only after the snow is gone but that could be the end of April the way this winter is going! But let's keep in touch for a get together in hopefully late March/Early April. Are you going to the Gettysburg event? Sure seems early in the season. I don't expect the snow to melted or more importantly the roads to be clear of salt etc.

So, do you work, retired? I'm semi-retired and work out of my home.

Take care,
Rick
