Default New Owner (SOVA) with questions!

Just picked up a 2003 Silverstone on Red, been looking for probably 6 months and finally pulled the trigger. Car is everything I expected and more!

I want to change most of the major fluids so that I know exactly what is in it and when it was put in. After some research, I think I'm going to go with Mobil1 motor (10w30) and diff (75w90), with the Honda MTF for the tranny, but I want to get some opinions on those fluids and other options for the change. I was also wondering where you guys typically buy your fluids... online, retailer, dealer?

For fluid recommendation purposes: Don't plan on tracking the car (at least not in the near future), not going to be my daily, but probably some spirited driving when I do pull it out.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome! You will get many different answers to your question, that is for sure. One thing is for sure, you cant go wrong with Honda fluids. You should also do a brake fluid change as well as your clutch fluids. There is also a cabin filter, that needs changing, more than likely.

I prefer Amsoil, but as I said you will get a ton of different answers.

Hope you have many miles of smiles.

Thanks! I'm about 40 miles of smiles in, hopefully another 200k left!

I will definitely be getting to the clutch/brakes, and as for the cabin air filter, it was changed at 43k (currently 51k) so I'm hoping that should be alright for a while

Are you using Amsoil for everything? Their Synchromesh for the MTF, etc? And also where are you buying your product, I think there's a NAPA near me that carries some of the higher end fluids, but I wasn't sure if the general consensus was that you could get a better price online or something

Went out today and grabbed some materials. Went with Amsoil motor and diff, Honda OEM MTF and filter.

I was also wondering if anybody had any feedback on a steering/suspension question I've got. I'm completely new to the car, so this could just be a characteristic of the handling virtues of the S, but I'm getting an odd dynamic when I lift the throttle (or more extreme when pressing the clutch) while turning. The front of the car basically seems to shift a couple of degrees into the turn (or rear out), almost as if the car is beginning to oversteer. No traction loss occurs, and there is no instability (other than the event itself) just kind of an unsettling feeling of the car not continuing in the direction it was pointed a second ago. It seems to happen to a varying degree at most any speed (have only tried between about 20-60mph). Is this normal? About to crawl under the car as I type this to start fluid changes, so I'll take a look at some of the suspension components

Welcome and good choice on the fluids, especially since AP1s are known to consume Mobil1. Not only that, but Mobil1 usage is known to cause premature wear on the timing chain tensioner (TCT). S2000s are very sensitive to tire pressure so check that first and frequently as well as your motor oil level.

Did you buy the Carmax one?
If so you are one lucky guy, that car is clean as hell and with the rare all red interior.

Yea, hated to pay what I did, but it wasn't really too much higher than a private party for a similar car. It really is almost flawless, small paint imperfections and a pen mark on the dash near the ignition (looks like somebody turned the key with an uncapped pen on their key chain). Also a little whirring in neutral that goes away when pressing the clutch in, so probably gonna need to do a throwout bearing in the nearish future.

Also, tires were a little low (all 4 at 26, I'm guessing they filled them to 32 when they were hot or something) and after filling them, I'm still getting that odd attitude change on forward weight shifts while turning.

Working on getting some pics, gonna take the camera out tmoro before I cover it for a while

I'll admit the price was a bit high, but if you want a basically perfect car you have to pay to play.

Pulled out an old camera and took some shots. Kinda cloudy/rainy so I didn't do any top down pics yet and next time I'll straighten the wheels out as the steering wheel being upside down in int pics is bothering me more than it should (try to ignore various items in the background, didn't feel like moving it to a more neutral location).
