Well I went back out again and was able to keep it from stalling and went around my block twice and was doing better than just an hour ago.

I'm guessing in a week or so I should be decent at it.

My main thing is when I'm upshifting I end up going from like first to 2cnd to like 4th. Reverse is also a pain because since I'm still being all jerky I kind of shoot backwards. So no parking in a space where I have to back out yet.

Overall though I'm pretty confidant I'll get it in a little bit

I'm 20. I just decided to go driving and took the freeway and several other road along with lots stop and go traffic. Now I'm comfortable with it. So I'd say it took me an hour or two to get it down to where the only thing I'm still dealing with is misshifting into first instead of third but its only happened twice and only at really low speeds. Other than that I don't think its hard. Don't know why people said you shouldn't learn on an s2k. I just got in by myself and learned based off the info from this site.

Only thing I'm still having trouble with is every once in a while I'll stall taking off but at least between shifts I'm not chirping the tires or making it jerk near as much as when I first started.

I could barely get the car moving the first 20min.

Now I wonder why I never tried one in the first place

Try this:

When shifting into first or second, put your thumb up and your palm on the right side of the shift knob. When shifting into third or fourth, point your thumb to the left and put your palm on the top of the shift knob. when shifting into fifth or sixth point your thumb down and put your palm against the left side of the shift knob. Do not hold the shifter like a joystick.

I am exaggerating the motions, but perhaps this video will help.

No my S is not dead. I only misshifted around like 25mph so the revs only went up to like maybe 6k. Only happend twice. I was able to drive all the way from Ft Worth to Dallas and back tonight and didn't have any problems besides that damned stalling. Other than that I haven't had problems.

Probably would've helped to look at the shift gate design a little more to save myself from thinking 3rd was somewhere it wasn't.

Once you get the car moving, everything else is pretty easy.

So practice going and stopping. Take the car on a hill and practice too. To this very day, I still hate hills. Haha.

Yea I've gotten a lot better. I've driven like 200miles since I got it mostly at night going on the freeway during rush hour and lots of stop n go on some minor hills as well as street straffic.

Only thing I still have to work on is backing up. I cannot for the life of me get into reverse smoothly. True once you take off its a breeze. I will say that driving in stop n go freeway traffic at first was kind of initimidating but once i actually got there I just learned to keep my distance so if at all possible I wouldn't have to stop, just keep barely rolling. That and I've just gotten better at taking off.

Sometimes when I shift though the shifts are like butter and other times they are just average I guess lol

Good stuff. Keep practicing. For the time being, I'd avoid downshifting unless you need to on the highway. Get really familiar with normal shifting pattern.

If you slip the clutch too much, you'll smell it.

The intimidation goes away with time, man, that's the only way. Just don't sweat it. Anything of concern on the road, take your right and left feet and push down the brake and the clutch.

While you're learning, probably stay out of VTEC. Just a suggestion.
