I only have gone into vtec at night on a clear highway. I've only smelt burnt clutch twice and it went away in a few seconds.

Now I finally got the shifting pattern down. Other than getting into reverse I'm pretty good. Still trying to learn how to take off smoothly though.

Reverse sucks. I know you have to push down but when I pushed down and moved it back I moved it to 6th lol. So I always look for places to park where I don't have to back up until I'm more comfortable with backing up

Well, backing up takes practice. In general, I almost never come off the clutch completely when I'm backing up, so don't feel bad if you're using the clutch a lot for reverse.

Taking off is just a matter of practice. Smoothness comes from experience.

Best of luck, man. Whatever you do, don't be afraid of your car. It's there to listen to you.

Yea. It seems like every other trip I get better and better. A lot fewer stalls at lights than last nite. I'm learning how to feather the gas as I release the clutch to take off smoother.

Now when you say you don't come off the clutch when in R do you just have it slightly pushed in?

Right. In other words, I "feather" the clutch at about 1500 RPM and let out the pedal just to get going a little, then I push it back in to coast. I never want much speed in reverse.

Good stuff. Keep practicing. For the time being, I'd avoid downshifting unless you need to on the highway. Get really familiar with normal shifting pattern.

Now my only real problem is sometimes if I don't pay attention when I'm stopping I'll accidently put it in 3rd and stall.

I'm still sort of hit and miss with taking off. Don't really stall anymore but sometimes its perfect and others its jerkey. I'm going to go to a pking lot and practice first again and again so I can learn the engagement point better. It seems to be about halfway off the clutch though
