Default New S2000 build

Hello;

A bit older with a bit more money I'm looking for a 2ed weekend car. I have always loved the S2000

I have been watching and researching a bunch of it. I'm a bit of a gear head and like to do my own work. I was looking for the main thing reliability
I have 2000 Honda Civic Before Started with a D167y8 Freddy Turbo KIT LOVED IT, built the motor and it was no longer reliable at all. Spent more time in shops and tow trucks.
Custom 327whp SOCH turbo kit after fully built motor bad builder blew headgasket then the motor after you are 30k into a civic it's time to part it out and left a really bad taste in my mouth
Cars are endless money pits.

Now I'm a bit older I'm looking to just buy a nice S2000 and super charger it or turbo I'm still not sure what I want.
Issue are I live in CA so smog hookup is 300 or do it legit. I'm worried about getting pulled over a bit.

Plans was find a high mile black, white, sliver with black inside and paint the whole car gunmetal old to my old car.
Super Charge, brakes, coil overs, rad, oil cooler clutch, tune, header exhaust. Fun weekend car.

I'm don't know what supercharger kit I want to do yet.

I have about a $20k budget to do this. I'm just looking to find a car in good shape for around 9 or 10k this has been the hard part.

So what I'm asking is been looking on craigslist, Facebook market, ebay, auto trader any other place to find what I'm looking for?

If anyone has any insight that would be great. Also if they have any good shops in the bay area for S2000 needs I would like that as well

Soon to be S2000 Quad-Damage Owner
Here is my old car it's been parted out but I still miss it to this day.

its possible... however ill be the first to point out a vortech kit at 8psi isnt going to get you 400hp... 10-11 psi on those kits nets you about 375-380 which is why most are going the science of speed and kraftswerks route

otherwise that is a relatively cleanish car

I'm looking at this one not sure he is a member I'm real worried about the high miles

But
K&N FIPK intake120

Ballade TCT280

Ballade timing gear580

Hardrace Roll Center adjusters230

Rear Tow Hook50

StopTech Brake lines F/R40

RainX Latitude wipers20

Modifry glove organizer10

Modifry Turn signal relay10

EBC yellow front brake pads50

Megan rear toe arms100

Innovative Diff Mounts150

AP2 Steering wheel150

Konig dekagram 17x9500

Falken Azenis RK615+ 255/40/17200

Spoon Shift Knob40

Ballade TCT, gearMugen titanium Exhaust800

Tein Flex Z coilovers700

Blox halfshaft spacers80

Honda Premium extended floor mats50

4160

So It has most of the after market stuff I would do anyways on it;

DO you thinking Supercharging this would be stupid? I just want to do like a reliable 400whp setup a very fun street car
If i can get the car for 9 ish I could put 10k into a really strong build. Or even sawp the motor for a lower mile one or rebuild it if it blows

Thoughts?

You don't want to buy a clean, stock S2000 and have fun with it stock? Learn the car before throwing almost double the horsepower at it than what it came out of the factory with? FWD is a lot different than RWD especially characteristics of the S... Even factory HP is enough to have fun with. Do you plan to track it or just have some 400WHP "street cred" monster? Plus for 9-10K you wont find a clean one, at least not in California.

^^ yep I'm finding that out right now for 9 to 10k u can't really get much.

I agree a factory HP is fun; but a 400whp street car is what I'm looking to do; living in CA i might just do a carb legal turbo kit at low 300's and be happy with it
I'm looking for reliability for sure. How many miles do the motors go.

I might just find a super cheap one with a bad motor and just swap a low mile motor in; this is looking to be the best solution for what I want to do.
I am in no rush to buy. I'll keep on looking
And yes I would track and car and make it my weekend car I have a daily already.

Well I pulled the trigger today proud owner of a 2001 AP with 84k miles

Before Wax pretty dirty

After 1 layer of Wax

No filter Fresh wax

I already ordered a bunch of parts; new radiator, oil, diff oil, spark plugs, trans fluid. I am getting a Blade sport TCT it does have the ap1 buzz with the trans will upgrading the clutch fix that. I plan on boosting it very very soon.
I also have a large rattle from the high flow cat right now super loud. None of the bolts look lose might be the heat shield.
Basic Teins Z, AP2 bumper, Intake, Exhaust, it's a s2001 but I'm looking to enjoy it

@Quad-Damage

I am getting a Blade sport TCT
Consensus here is to avoid this TCT (and several suggest avoiding Ballade completely). The Billman GenX TCT is the preferred part.

Read the threads and make your own decision.
