Default New S2000 and new to the forum (need help)

Hey guys and gals,

Just a bit about myself i just purchased a used S2000 last week, i love the car, but i am in need of some help.

The car is a 02, and i have the following mods, AEM intake, tanabe touring exhaust, and Zigen 4-2-1 header. After these mods, do you guys think it would be worth the money to reflash the computer? Or with this year car can i even do that? I have yet to find a company that will.

Any help, links or tips would be great! Thanks Guys and gals!

The ECU in your MY02 isn't flashable.

Cool thanks for the quick answer, also any suggestions for performance besides interals or force fed? I dont currently have the cash for that right now. Just easy bolt on suggestions would be great!

gears, I'd say... 4.57's or 4.77's are your best bet for the car... would need the yellow box calibrator also to keep speedometer and odometer accurate with this upgrade...

Also a 63mm or wider single exhaust with test pipe for the most gains if you wanna...

It's hard to gain much hp/tq on the s2k with simple bolt-ons I'm afraid...

Really, F.I. is the best bang for buck with these cars, buuut I hear ya on the $$$ thing...

Like Whitemistress2k said, gears are a very nice mod. I have 4.30:1 gears but the 4.57's are the most popular and seem to represent the best compromise for most people.

Most who want big power gains have gone FI, but there is a thread on NA tuning in the JDM forum. IMO FI is well worth the expense, and I'd advise saving for that if you can manage it.
FI + S2000 = +
Hey man thanks for your help, and by the way it looks online 4.57/4.56 gears seem to be the best for road use and to help accel. Anyone by chance have a good site to order?

Only site i found they wanted 599.00 without S/H.

Ricks(www.ricks2k.com) and Hardtop Guy(www.hardtopguy.com) are both reputable and trustworthy sales people, and both i believe do the install as well. Just know that the 4.56 are products that are s2k specific and are not mass produced by a manufacturer, therefore it will be more expensive than some other alternatives. Another route you can go is the 4.44 fd found on the RX-8 which can be found at www.motorklasse.com or the aggressive 4.77 which is found in the KIA sportage. Mazda makes the gears for both of these cars (And even the 4.1 found in our car stock.) There is an active thread in S2000 Talk right now about this and plenty of info if you do a search for "kia gears". Anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck with the S, And enjoy it every day!

BerlinaBK beat me to it, but Rick's is the place to go for 4.56:1 gears. The gears Rick sells are stronger than the stock gears or Kia gears, so that's worth some consideration. OTOH, I have 4.30 Kia gears and haven't had any issues with their strength in spite of the FI.

Lots of options, but the 4.56 gears Rick sells are as popular as they are for a reason. They're a premium product at a premium price. Good luck on selecting the gears that will be best for your application.

BTW, if you're going to autocross or track the car you might want to look at your class rules before changing your gearing.
