Default NEW S2000 OWNER! HOLE IN ROOF ALREADY :(

Hi everybody!..... Just got a 57 plate s2000! Only had it a week and put the roof down to find when i put it back up there to be a hole, L shaped hole 5cm by 3cm, gutted have checked user manual on how to put roof down, have followed exactly as it states. It seems to be the clamp on the right driver side had pushed through the cloth..... is this a common problem? Have been told by honda it will cost 1800 including labour to replace roof. Have had temp repair done which still shows cosmetic damage. Is there anything i can do to prevent this from happning again? Or Could it just be the roof is 4 years old and needs replaced. Allow it is in MINT condition and only 19000 miles on the clock..... every othertime i have had the roof down it has been fine. Cant get my head around it!

Typical reply would be to use the search function. This is a WELL documented problem, and unfortunately one that plagues most, if not all, years of our car. Happened to my MY02, and again on my next S2K, even though I upgraded the second top to a Robbins canvas top. Only took a few months of top down driving to notice wear starting on both the passenger and driver sides. While the top is off, some people take a file to the frame and smooth out any burrs that might be present to nick the top material. It can be hard to get to with the top in place, so I opted for another method to deal with it. I took some top material from my old top (can be found on here in the marketplace from time to time) and secured it to the wear spots with a glue called Goop . I then bought some UHMD tape, and wrapped around the frame support bar where I believed the damage to be coming from. The tape is very abrasion resistant and slick, and is meant to better slide the frame along the top to prevent future wear to the newly reinforced spots. Anyway, enjoy your new S. It is a fantastic car. Only problem I've ever had with my 2 was this stupid issue with the top. I'd check the FAQ sections of the forum to get acquainted with your new car.

P.S. Watch the gas around turns, especially in the cold and the wet.

Thanks for your time W0Pdego..... New to this so did not know about the search function. Could you recommend any websites or companys which could supply a new hood cheaper than honda? 1200 is very steep just for the hood! This Robbins canvas sounds interesting! Had the best week of my life this week in it, what a car! Perfect S2000 weather Shame the week had to end with a hole in my roof lol. ah well thats life..... Will check the FAQ's! thanks again m8!

oh.. you're going to confuse us Americans by calling the soft top a hood and the hood a bonnet I think I used the EZ-on top(or hood, if you prefer) when I replaced mine, still looks great 2 years later. Robbins gets great reviews too I believe.

I purchased my EZOn top through topsonline.com

It was only ~400 bucks. If you are tech savvy you can install yourself (I hear even techtards can handle it, too) and save some cash.

Or you can go to Topsonline.com input your local address and find a recommended local install shop. I assume topsonline has a UK list of shops. Good luck with it.

^ yep what they said. I got mine from tops online too. Was closer to 800 though as I got the defrosted rear glass and upgraded roof material, but that site has(had?) the best price on a new top I was able to find.
