New to the world of Honda
Hello everyone. I have recently been in the market for a new (used) car and the S2000 has caught my attention. For anyone who cares to read on, I'll provide some background info on the cars I've recently owned and/or driven extensively and why I now find myself here looking for a used S2000.
My current vehicle is a lightly modified 99 Trans Am. Before that I had a 92 3000GT VR4 (twin turbo, AWD for those unfamiliar). Needless to say I've been used to cars that are decently quick and run low-mid 13s but now I find myself putting handling and the overall experience before raw straight-line speed. I do most of my driving in town and there's no place to really enjoy the TA. I also rarely go to the track anymore because I don't really want to beat on it or break parts.
I loved everything about the 3000GT but it was old and had quite high miles. The car handled great for being 3800lbs, it was fast and torquey, and NOTHING beats the fun factor of AWD. However, it was costing far too much for me to drive and I also had it while in college so it was a poor combination. I sold it in '06 and bought the TA which I still really enjoy driving, but I find myself wanting something that handles better rather than being fast in a straight line. Plus I just want something new with a manual trans (the TA is auto but I could not pass up the deal I got on it). Everyone gets tired of a car at some point, right?
My mother had a 2004 Boxster but recently traded it in. I drove that car often and loved it. The handling, the drop top, everything about it was just pure fun. And this car was even an auto. I find myself missing the handling on rails and started looking into S2000s after doing a bit of research and realizing they were faster than I had once thought. I still need the car to have some balls in a straight line. I was also looking at older Boxsters but they are more expensive, less powerful, and parts/maintenance cost more for sure. So here I am. I look forward to learning more about the S2000 platform and possibly owning one in the near future.
