ill highlight main differences in the 2 models quickly others may elaborate
ap1 and ap2 have different engines
ap1s revs to 9k
ap2 revs to 8k and has more torque then its predecessor

suspension is more "forgiving" in an ap2 less prone to snap oversteer

some ap1s came came with plastic rear convertible windows which are prone to cracking all ap2s have glass rear windows

there are also slight body style changes between the 2 as well as different wheels

theres my qwik answer,
donnys2k

The AP1 is the original, with 1.8 litre motor, that was refined each year it was in production. The AP2 is the first major revision, introduced in 2004, that made the S2000 a more complete car, or should I say, more dimensional. The big differences are the character of the motor, the interiors, the suspensions - they are similar yet different cars. different enough you should test drive both.

I suggest you read the wiki on the S2000 - lots of good info there - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_S2000

Visually - the headlights, taillights, and bumpers are different. The interior center console is different.

Already touched upon is the AP1 has a 2.0 liter 9k redline engine. The AP2 is a 2.2 liter 8(.3?)K redline. The wheels were changed from 16" to 17".

The suspension was revised - more DD friendly IMO. I think most will say that AP1 is a more raw feel, AP2 is a little more refined feeling.

1. Not quite, try 2.0 and the engine in ALL of the AP1's is basically the same. There no improvements made each year.

2. This is opinion, not fact.

Its a lot more than just more torque - there were lots of refinements to the car in all areas.

Go drive both and see!

There are pros and cons with both based on your personal driving habits.
