Default Newcomer look for place to drive

Hi I'm Jacob I've had my ap1 for 5 years now and am about to hit the 80k mark. I'm looking for a place to do some driving. Any tracks around the gastonia and charlotte area? I have no driving experience but as I'm about to graduate nursing school I will have another car should something break. Thanks and thanks for a great forum. I'm reading some thread on this site at least 3 times a week

Welcome to the site, Jacob! Might have better luck asking in your local section, the Carolinas.

I've never even spun my car. Not sure if it's my god-given driving skills or a combination of RE-11A tires and VSA! I mean as an American Male I was born with the natural ability to shoot, ride moto-cross, drive NASCAR, and seduce beautiful women. Nevertheless I intend to take the Performance Driving School at Mid-Ohio this spring. Got too busy last year. I've been driving for decades but other than driver training in high school I'm self taught. To be truthful I don't even know if I have the seat in the ideal position and suspect the few of us that do just did it by accident.

Practice without proper training just reinforces bad or less than ideal techniques. During a professional shooting course the instructor asked my buddy "Did you develop this technique yourself?" Without waiting for an answer he continued "Don't ever tell anyone you learned it from me!" (It was my buddy, I promise!)

I'm sure literally every track that sponsors sports car events has a similar program which will allow mistakes and learning in a controlled environment. It's tough admitting we're lacking one or two of those god-given skills but it's the first step.

The only tracks I know of in North Carolina for road courses are Charlotte Motor Speedway infield/roval, Rockingham Speedway infield/roval, and North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR). I don't know how many events are run at these tracks anymore though. NASA has an event at NCCAR on Sept 3-4 and an event at Rockingham Jul 2-3. I would check out http://www.nasa-se.com for more details.

^^ What Tut said. NCCAR is a great track for beginners. Very wide track with a lot of run off and no elevation change.
