Default NOOB HELP!

Hi i am interested in a 2000 s2k. It has 13000 miles. how long does the warranty last and can i possibly extend the warranty any longer as it is now? I come from a long line of 4g63 model cars and i need something i can have that will be reliable. Also is there an option to purchase an additional warranty or so????

any known problems with the car?

By the way. i was reading about shortblock replacements and so on. Is this a known problem for the 2000 s2k cars. I need a near bulletproof car.

The #4 cylinder scoring problem necessitated short block replacements for a few owners. You can read about this in Barry's "Short block replacement" thread in the S2000 Talk forum https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8051

One problem which led to the nightmare was spark plugs backing off. Honda addressed that in mid 2002 with a spark plug "campaign" to replace and tighten up everyone's plugs. If you buy a used S2000, you should immediately check the torque on the spark plugs.

Another unresolved suspected cause of cylinder scoring was oil starvation. Late in the 2002 model year, a new 4-hole oil sprayer bolt was substitued into the production line at the factory. A few European countries actually issued a recall to replace the bolts, but American Honda Motors did not feel this was called for and never issued a recall.

Despite the 4-hole bolt, a few folks have had similar engine damage, as reported in Barry's thread.

A final piece of the puzzle showed up when some changes were made to the oil pump mechanism itself (I think this occurred in either late 2003 or early 2004).

The vast majority of owners have had no problems, but when someone is buying used, I recommend a compression test to help with peace of mind. I'm not sure about the 2006, but all earlier S2000s did not have detailed logging in their engine computers to know if someone had done an overrev or other mistreatment.

Okay so everything seems reasonable. 4 bolt oil bolt shouldn't be hard to change. Also i heard there was spark plug backing out problems???

Yes, that's what the spark plug campaign that I mentioned was for. The plug was changed and the torque rating went up from (I think) 13lb-ft to 18lb-ft.

Yes, a number of owners have changed the oil (banjo) bolts themselves. There are some threads on this, I believe.

As for the oil pump changes that I think I read about, I don't know how hard that is to do.
