Hey guys, after years of owning an s2000 I finally joined. Not sure what took me so long! I feel like I might be able to provide some advice instead of just asking questions now at least.
I owned a Del Sol in college and I promised myself I'd get an s2000 when I got into my career. I fullfilled that promise six years ago when I purchased my 2000 s2000 off of ebay and shipped it up here from florida. I've been very happy with it. It's the only sports car I've owned and the only car I've spent more than $4k for.
Not the best pic, but here it is. It's basically stock expect for the rims, alarm, and stereo. The rims were included when I purchased it. I'd like to change them to black someday. The car itself is in good condition except for the soft top. I'd like to replace it, but I am not too comfortable attempting it myself so I'm hoping to find someone to pay as a side job. I'm also planning on inspecting the retainers in the near future and if they should be replaced, that's another job I'm not comfortable attempting myself. Otherwise I have done all the maintenance myself except for alignments and tires. The other thing on my mind is my TCT. I'll post a video of the idle sound and see what people think in the appropriate section.
Anyways, with winters so long up here, I rarely see another s2000 on the road. I've seen one so far this year and have never bumped into another owner at a gas station or parking lot around here. I've never tracked it and enjoy the casual use. Thanks for all the help I've received from lurking these forums and hopefully I'll be able to help others.
No need to post a video of your TCT. Replace it regardless of noise as if it's not worn out now it will be. Known issue. Replace it as preventive maintenance. Billman's TCT (don't consider any others) goes in in 10 minutes with a 10mm wrench and a paper towel. You can do it right where the car sits now if there's enough light.
Hi! You might ask in the Midwest and/or Upper Mid-West subforums for recommendations for someone to help you with the tasks you're not comfortable doing yourself.
Congrats! I know its been 6 years but it seems like its been 6 great years. Like Chuck said. Just order the Billman TCT. I replaced mine as soon as i bought my car and my TCT probably still had plenty of life. I did it for peace of mind and the fact i'll never have to worry about it again.
Congrats on your car! Its always great to hear when someone who has been a fan of the car; finally becomes an owner.
My S is a also a 2000.
seeing you have a AP1. I would def recommend a valve adjustment, and while the cover is off. Take a look at your retainers.
If you drive the car regularly; check your oil bi-weekly or monthly based on how hard you drive it.
Funny you should mention not seeing too many around your area. I bought mine in St. Paul, MN and brought it to Iowa. I have had it just a year and have only seen one other. They are rare in my area too.
