Default Owner in waiting - England

Hello all,

Was hoping to be owner by now but just having problems finding a car worthy enough to spend my hard earned pounds on.

Can't wait to own a s2k and add it to my list of owner cars. Love the ride position, gear box, the limited amount on the roads and of course the high revving engine.

Looking forward to being apart of this great community.

Hopefully find what I'm looking for soon

Quick up date on my quest for a "S"

After months of viewing s2000's that i didn't feel were priced appropriately (one even had rust on which the owner didn't think was important to mention in the advert or over the phone) and missing out on one which i still didn't feel 100% on. I almost purchased a 350z because of the outrageous prices i felt people where asking for there s2000. One night homing in on a deal for a 350z i had i quick look on auto trader to see what was new in the market and seen a S with only one owner since new, red interior, hard top, low miles and full service history. After a quick peek at the advert and pictures i knew 100% if all checked out that was the one i had been waiting for more so than a 350z which was really only a option because it was the next best thing in my opinion.

The car is as follows:

Model 2003
Colour silverstone silver?
interior Red/black (seats red - door cards black)
Full honda service history
one owner from new
mileage 58,000
condition inside/outside Spanking!
All keys accounted for.
Hardtop and stand.

owned by a s2kuk member and even got a free s2kuk tax disc hold with it.

previous owner was Ian (old chap) private plate ending in WTF not sure if you guys know of him. All credit to him the car is in very good condition.

Only thing i can really say about my experiance of buying a s2000 is there are a lot of people asking over the odds for them but if you wait around one will come up. If your not sure about a certain one then just wait until one comes up that feels right, Don't settle! You will only regret it later on. I still check the market from time to time and i still haven't seen one that is as good value for money as mine. How ever the one before that I missed out on or at least thought i did, almost hit the mark. It was good value but only just i felt. I'm sure others might have thought it was great value if you was to look at the market and current prices people were asking for them. I pressured myself into the sale as i thought it was the be all and end all, cause it was the best i had seen so far. I hesitated and it sold the next day which only made me feel as though I had missed out. Now I look back i wouldn't have been happy with one that had as high as mileage as it did. Compared to the S i have now it was worth passing on.

Look at ones that have sold recently and the price at which they sold for. Most adds don't tell you how many owners so phone up and ask, Some seem great value for money until you find out that it has had six owners and for me alarm bells ring for a car of this type that is 10 years old give or take. Ask them if service history is full 99% of the time people will say yes, so ask them how many stamps are in the book...1 per year is what i was looking for but people were claiming full service history with just 5-6 stamps. Does it have tax? 6 or 12 months? Does it come with a hardtop? some GT models have had there hardtops sold on and others don't mention it in the add so ask. Don't be afraid to ring someone up who sold recently and ask them the history, mileage, condition and price it sold for. People are a lot more honest once its no longer theirs and are more than happy to share the selling price as its not under negotiations any more. You will find most of the ones that were £200-400 pounds more than what you wanted to spend actually sold for £200-400 less.

The above is what i set the market value of a S2000 at but they are far and few inbetween. Dealers ask well over the odds but they need to make money.
You can get some good condition ones through dealers as people usually trade up and do not want the hassle of a private sell. Plus there is the convenience and peace of mind of getting a high priced one from a reputable dealer that only sells cars that meet there standard(not always the case).
But buying privately is scary for most and even myself, Its a lot of money to hand over specially if your not getting what you think you are buying.

Look at what you want for you money and find one that meets your standard and see how much it sold for. Find another and do the same, if you need to make a compromise then find one you don't mind making. I went on what sold not whats for sale. stuff that is good value for money sells in a day! so the add may say sold but inquire anyway.

Buying is very stressful if its your savings your dipping into. Do your research and check the forum buying guides and also common issues. If done correctly you will have the car you always wanted rather than a hole in your pocket and shattered dreams. If your reasonable with your pricing and have time to wait you can save your self £££'s.

Will post Pictures when i finally pull the polish out and find a good back drop.
