Possible Future S2K Owner
Hi all
I have been a fan of the S2000 and have wanted one for the longest time. I have finally come across one that I thought was "the one". Turns out there are some possible red flags that would steer me away from this purchase. I'd like to get some additional opinions from you all to help me decide if this would be a safe purchase.
So I'm looking at an 03 with 39,xxx on the clock. The car looks to be in great shape inside and out. The ad was created by the owner's son who is helping his father sell the car. Seller had informed me that there was nothing wrong with the car and it was a clean sale. As I was asking for the VIN so that I could run a Carfax, the seller had replied with the VIN and stated that his father is the 3rd owner and it had a minor accident in 2003 by a previous owner. He had also stated that there is a mileage discrepancy due to error when transferring titles. Here is the explanation for the mileage discrepancy:
"Mileage discrepancy happened when the previous owner bought it from North Carolina and transferred it to him in VA. The title had a smudge on the mileage mark and the DMV said they had to register it as not actual miles unless he could get the owner from NC to confirm it. He didn't want to deal with it so he left it as is. But like I said the Carfax will also confirm the actual miles."
The pictures definitely show proof of the car being low miles. Just curious what you guys think of this situation and if you think it would be a safe buy.
Thanks!

Check the 10 VIN numbers on the various body panels to see if any panels have been replaced as part of the minor accident. Google S2000 VIN number locations for the exact location of each. Besides the carfax, maybe complete maintenance records could support the mileage on the odometer.
