Default Potential new S2k Owner

Hello all! Due to some unforeseeable circumstances (my wife was in an accident and her car may be totaled, not at fault though), I may have to give up my '11 Evo to keep from having two car payments. I have always wanted an S2000. We have talked about the situation and I have decided to trade in the Evo on a brand new car for her and pay out for an S2000 if her car is totaled. I was hoping you guys could give me some pointers as to what to look for when trying to find my S2k. Common problems, etc. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I've owned my 2004 (AP2) since November 2008. I love driving it and am a top-down freak. My thoughts would be to check the top carefully -- if you've been reading posts, you know they have a problem. I just got a Robbins top put on mine -- dark blue canvas on a Suzuka blue metallic body. A beautiful upgrade. The original top lasted 8 years -- some other members share real horror stories. My other suggestion would be to check out the different features of the AP1 and AP2. I'm glad mine is an AP2 -- slightly larger and the steering was stabilized. I never drove an AP1, but I have read comments about the steering. My blue babe steers great. You'll love owning and driving an S2k. A small point that no one else has commented on (to my knowledge) -- kudos to Honda for their interior planning and design. Sitting in the driver's seat, all controls are so handy -- and the arrangement on the dash is symetrical on each side of the steering wheel. I don't consider this a frivolous comment -- it means to me that Honda really thought out the little details. Don't know how they slipped up as to the issue of the tops tearing above the hinges. But, like I said, 8 years on a top is reasonable in my opinion. Have fun!!
