I always though private party sales tax in Georgia must be paid at the time of registration if you do not have documentation stating that you have already paid the tax (like if you already paid sales tax at dealership). However, I came across a recent for sale thread that said private sales tax was not required and ga residents only pay sales tax at dealers. Can any georgia residents help me out?

 

No sales tax in Georgia if you buy from a private party...makes it hard to justify buying from a dealer if you can find a reasonable private deal.

Yep - I refuse to buy at a dealer because the tax is ridiculous.
