problems with 2000-2001
first off sorry if this is not an appropriate question for this section, this is my first post and dont want to get anyone angry..
well here is my question.. i am ready to buy an s2000, but i have found that 80% of the cars i can afford are 2000-2001's.. i am just hoping someone could tell me about known problems (mechanical) that would be costly, i am in college and am not looking for something to be costly in the area of repairs. i already know about the seatbelt retraction problem, the "grind" from first to second with some cars, and fading taillights. i also know about the plastic rear window, but eventually will get a hardtop anyway.
does anyone else know of any problems that would keep my future s2000 off the streets and in the shop?
thanks,
bryan

I'm assuming that you know the 2000's and 2001's are more tail-happy than the later ones. I've had a 2000 that I bought in September of 2000, and have had very little trouble with it. I have had the ECU replaced with a 2002 model because of a misfire due to the early ECU. Other than that nothing but consumables (brakes, oil, tranny fluid, diff fluid).
There are TSB's for all of the things you mentioned, so those may have all ready been fixed (except the plastic rear window).
