Default Prospective S2000 Buyer

hey guys(and girls), my name is Billy and Im 21. I guess I will tell a little bit about myself. I started on a Ford Ranger Mini-Truck when I was 15 and owned it up until last X-mas, yep it was stolen. But anyways, I was bit by the HONDA bug about a year ago when I bought a EK hatch for a "daily" hahaha! Well lets just say the Honda was the only thing I ever drove from that day! I then fell in love with the awesome handling and just the feel of the Honda period.

Well now since my truck was stolen, I am expecting to get around 5k from insurance. I have been looking for a new Honda since the truck was gone. I planned on buying a clean ek coupe or hatch of some sort. Then the idea struck me just the other day, a S2000! WHY NOT?!? Right? Ill answer that. RIGHT! haha.
I track my EK, and love roadracing. So the s2000 is perfect for me, I will just have to resist the temptation of tracking that also!

Sorry for the rambling, but I hope to be a S2000 owner in the near future. I still have not decided which year I want or how much I want to spend. I have though, made up my mind to stay 02+ due to the upgrades and sub 50k miles. I have ALOT of research to do still. The thought of brand new has crossed my mind also, since they are really only going for about 6k extra and I have a connection with a salesman here in Tampa at Honda. I like the new body style also.

So 5-7k down on the S2000, and make payments is what I plan to do. Should i go the extra mile and got for the 07' or atleast 06'. Or just go for the 18-22 range and go a bit older with low miles?

Insurance is another issue I still need to look into...

In my opinion...you should look at this from a financial point of view. Honestly, 5-7k isn't that much down when you're spending $30,000+ on a car. But if you have a connection, you might want to try it.

I personally don't think it's worth it to buy a new one unless you're in a position where you know you can afford the car and the insurance without being strapped every month. No car is worth that. The 2002-2003 S2K's are great because they have those minor upgrades from the older models, and they still rev to 9k. Although AP2 owners don't think it's a big deal, the 2004-2007 S2K's only rev to 8k. I definitely agree that the newer models look better, which is why I'm pretty much doing a conversion. But just look around, find what you like, and do alot of research.

Just to give you an idea, I bought my 2002 last August with 15,000 miles on it, and with a hardtop for $20,000.

thanks, yeah thats most likely what I will end up goign with. I dont belive Ill be able to afford a brand new one, plus Im still a little young for a 30k car. haha. Im probably going to stick in the 18-22k range, since I noticed thats what the low mileage 02-03's run for. i really want a hard top also, hope I can find a deal like yours

Thanks for the input, and yeah 9k makes me alot happier! haha!
