Default Questions for Buying an S2000!

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. Just moved to So Cal a few months ago and been wanting an S2000 for years! I am now looking to buy. I am torn between the 2.0 vs. the 2.2. I love the 9k revs of the original!!! However the 2.2 does have more torque, reconfigured suspension, and cup holders. What are the Pro's and Con's? I know if I go older I want an 02 or 03 for the glass rear window , and more powerful ac, etc.

As for mods, all my freinds are running turbo cars and all have different suggestions which is quite confusing. Of course some say why an S2 .....it's performance is maxed from the factory...but I love the car! I want a reliable car so some are suggesting no turbo. Bad idea on a 11:1 compression. I have checked into the Comptech SC which supposedly doesn't void honda warranty and is a great gain with only 5.5 lbs of boost...very reliable but expensive. I think I will start E H I , but I'm told not to expect much?? Please help, I want reliable bang for the buck here. I see alot of guys now using the TWM throttle botties which look cool, but what is the real advantage here? 15 hp for $2k+?? Thanks!

Well, I advise you to just enjoy the car stock for a while and see what you want to change after driving it for a while.

There are tons of discussions in S2000 Talk and Forced Induction forums to help you decide on what mods to do down the road.

Anyway, best of luck.

If you want more on the reliable side go Supercharged. Comptech or Vortech are both good and no more costly than a turbo setup.

Suggest lurking around the FI forum.

Good Luck.

The AP1 (2.0L with 9K redline) versus AP2 (2.2L with 8K redline and a modified suspension setup) discussion has been beaten to death here. You should take a test drive and decide which one you enjoy the most. I always say this: Drive a used AP1 and then drive a used AP2 back to back if possible. This will clear things up a lot more.

Here is a review that outlines quite a lot of the differences:

Good luck with your purchase!

PS I agree with Chazmo. Unlike most of the production cars out there in this price range (or even cars in slightly higher ranges), this car is seriously pretty good "out-of-the-box." I'd suggest that you drive it around in stock form for a while before doing anything.
