I am a 7-week veteran of ownership of the world's finest all-around sports car (mine, a MY01 Spa Yellow version). Last week I took an entire 5 days off work in order to drive as many of Utah's canyons as possible before the snow starts falling, but instead of sun, it was like French Polynesia in the Tsunami season!
Now, this week is more like it! However, I've been at a work conference for the past two days. I got sick of it today, and after the conference dismissed, I hit a nearby canyon with nearly new Kumho Ecstas needing some asphalt shaving. Although this is my third time driving this particular canyon, it is the first time I have had so much fun driving ANY car. The S2000 is king!
I'm no racer; I have no formal training. I consider myself a competant driver who rarely pushes the line between control and recklessness. The S just made me twice as good. The cars on my slot car tracks as a kid barely could keep up with the way this glued tired wonder runs 30/60/90 degree turns. My mouth just hurts from smiling so much.
This afternoon made up for all those wet days last week. I can't believe I waited this long to find out what you all know - the S2000 is the ultimate Permagrin.
Thanks for the welcome. The s2ki website feels like home already. Here's a not-so-great camera phone shot from the drive today. I'm having a hard time deciding if the S or the canyon is more beautiful!
Chazmo: Thanks for the tip on watching the oil. As for the recall, I researched recalls and TSBs for the car before I bought it, and never found anything about the spark plugs. What specifically was the recall for? The membership is the least I could do in return for the info s2ki gave me during my decision to buy the car.
Beanolo: Yes the wheels are 18 X 8.5 Enkei RS7s that the prior owner put on. The tires are 225-40/18s and the fronts rub the fenders slightly when the suspension conpresses during cornering on not-so-smooth surfaces. I've already worn off two plastic rivets on the driver's side that hold on the plastic inner fender cover. I'm not sure if the offset on the wheels is wrong, or the width of the tires/rims, or possibly the aspect ratio of the tires. The set of wheels/tires is basically brand new, so I may just live with them and Goop the inner fender cover.
The spark plug recall took place at the end of 2002. There were several cases of plugs backing out (unthreading) and then disintegrating -- resulting in engine damage. Honda replaced the plugs with new ones that had a new type of washer (to hold better, I guess), and they up'd the torque rating for installing the plugs.
Oh, and with regard to your rubbing on the inner fender wall, you can roll the fenders at a body shop. Lots of folks do this, particularly if you really want to keep the wheels you have (that probably don't have the right offsets).
