i live in modesto, was #1 top car theft per capita in the US. it is still in the top 5. partly the reason for the hardtop. also, hardtop for winter use since it does rain pretty hard here.
As for rainfall, we get a LOT more in Houston and the soft top works just fine.

Don't let me dissuade you though. Your car, your choice. Just be sure you're getting the hardtop for the right reasons.

Jesus, it snows in July here....
im hoping i can find one at the local auction for cheap (just started going) instead of having to settle for a 2000-2001 s2000. yeah, i will get the kokodan? seat locks. i have to replace the driver seat with a recaro SPG (or similar) and the lowest mounting rails (taitec?) due to my height.
Nothing beats it for driving pleasure. I dont know if you are really in a position to buy one at 10k right now. I'd hate for you to get a rough or salvage car. You may want to put it off for a while and pick up a crx si or something for a while.

here are some ads i found giving me hope. but, i have seen some really beat cars at smaller dealerships which worries me (other cars i was considering). they are 2000 and 2001 models. i really would like a 2002+ thou. what do you guys think?

00-01 weigh the less and have the stiffest suspension
But honestly if you have the money get the newest one you can afford. Although with 12,000 your probably going to have to get an 00-01.
