Ok maybe i'm not trying hard enough but... I'm getting around 34,500 OTD here in Santa Clara, CA. What are your tax rates for you 07 guys because your prices sound too good. 8.25% here. Haven't bought mines yet, its suppose to arrive in a few days

Pee,

At this time of year, my *opinion* is that you should be able to negotiate hard for an S2000. Brand spanking new, you'd do well to break below 32K for the price of the car (before tax/lic)... A lot of people do.

Again, just my opinion. And, possibly the sales cycles of these cars in Cali is a little different than out here on the east coast during winter. Keep in mind that S2000 sales are really low this year and have been dropping. As much as I love the car, these things are not flying off dealer's lots.

7.75% in Sac where I registered it. That's only about a $150 difference in taxes vs. your 8.25%. You may have missed out on some '06 year end hidden incentives though I heard there weren't any - but who knows?

IMHO, you should be able to get it for $30,838 (invoice) less $925 (3% holdback) + $595 (destination) = ~$30,508 + $2,517 (@ 8.25%) = $33,026 plus whatever profit ($300-500?) you want to give them. IF they want to move the car, you should be able to get it for about $33.5K worst case OTD. If they are asking for way more, you have to be patient. Or go to Elk Grove Honda and ask for Blair if you want a red or yellow one. He can probably get you one of those two colors for very close to this price.

Hope this helps and good luck.

I negotiated price to 31,900 including destination, +taxes and dealer fees it came out to 34,8xx. I ended up going to a different dealership because they had the color I want coming soon. I talked to the guy briefly for 34,700 OTD, that price isnt set yet since i'm waiting for the car to come in before i buy but it sounds like that isn't too hot of a deal either.

Does 4xx sound about right for dealer fees and doc. charges?

I'm honestly note sure about the dealer/doc fees - my paperwork isn't accessible right now.

But you should be patient and find a dealer that will give you the price you feel comfortable paying. I'd go about negotiating from the price before taxes & title/license (TTL), not the OTD price. But that may just be me. My S2k cost $30,451 (including $595 dest.) before TTL, $33.1K OTD. You really shouldn't have to pay any more than $33.5 max OTD. As I've mentioned elsewhere, in the last two weeks, three people that I know of have gotten brand new S2Ks for $33.0 to $33.3K OTD. Paying $34.7K sounds way too high, or it does to me at least. Be patient and you should be able to save $1,000+. In the end, it really does boil down to what you feel comfortable paying. Me, knowing that two other people (one was in SoCal) paid $33.0 to $33.3K gave me a great negotiating strength. I didn't want to line the dealer's pockets with an extra $1k. If you wait until the end of the month, you will also have a better negotiating position. Good luck and do what feels right for you!

After dealing with 6 different dealerships in Phoenix looking for a blue 07. I finally settled on one. They met my price (31k before ttl) and were going to let me take it right off the truck (when it arrives in two weeks). I asked the dealer to call me back when he finds out the exact date of arrival. He calls back a minute later to tell me that Honda just raised the price of the s2k by $501. He then tried to correct himself and said the dealer holdback was cut/reduced. He told me there was no difference to justify the price increase, that's just the way it is. I also heard from another dealership that Honda recently changed the amount of dealer holdback. I'm not saying I believe either, but was wondering if anyone else has heard the same.

edit:
Oh and just to clarify, he claimed it only affected s2ks arriving from now on. Ones on the lot are ok.

It's my understanding (perhaps mistakenly) that carmakers usually raise prices on new models when the new model year first comes out - usually in fall, or thereabouts. I would guess it would be pretty rare for them to be raised the day you agreed to buy one. Sounds fishy to me. And holdbacks were 3% on 12/31/06 - I'd be surprised if they were reduced on S2Ks at this time of year due to their very slow sales. Sounds to me like your dealer is a bit shady and trying to milk you for more money. However, I could wrong on all counts...

Nonsense, hondaboy. He's playing you. 31K is a good price, but he's still making some money on that. Don't let them jerk you around. Tell him you're angry and forget it, and keep looking. Odds are he'll come crawling back to you.
