Thanks for rescuing a sad looking car!

Are you sure the transmission is bad? The syncro issue is sometimes remedied (or at least improved) by fluid choice, clutch adjustment, and proper shifting technique.

I'd get it running first and see how bad it is before dropping $$ on a new transmission.

i agree with that we jumped it and drove it onto the trailer after putting in some gas treatment. Was running strong!

I don't think I would have started it without some maintenance first........

Based on how thee previous owner treated the car, I wouldn't trust their diagnosis of any potential issues; I'm guessing they are a heartless idiot (maybe I'm being harsh, but dang that car was abused).

My AP1 had a pretty good 2-3 grind when I got it. I experimented with various MTF's until I found what worked the best in it. Between that, adjusting the clutch, a weighted shift knob, shifter re-grease, and proper shifting technique, I can go weeks without a hint of grinding. If I get lazy with shifting technique, then there it is (not bad though).

I've had mine about 5 years and put on 30k miles in said time with no transmission issues.

Since it's been home i've changed the oil and im going to do the other fluids after i change the brakes which will be this week. I put the top down but the plastic rear window was so dryrotted that it cracked so i need to get that fixed or get a new top with glass. I would love to know what mtf you found to work best. Ive already washed, claybarred and waxed and it's starting to look good.

Looks much better!

Plan on replacing the entire top. If you DIY, be prepared for a hell of a task.

I've used the following MTF's; Honda, Amsoil, GM Synchromesh, Redline MT90.

I'm running the MT90 right now, and without a doubt, it's the best in my car. All the others felt fine for the first few minutes, but once to operating temp, the grind would reappear. Honda and GM were about the same, and Amsoil was terrible (only ran it for a few hundred miles).

Each AP1 transmission seems to respond a little differently to various MTF's, so it may take some experimenting.
