Default s2000 test drive

So I test drove an 2006 s2000 a few weeks ago, a laguna blue pearl, and I wasn't really suprised. I've always wanted one, but now I'm rethinking what I should do. Heres a few reasons why.

I'm coming from a rsx-s with intake, exhaust and cams, and in terms of power, the s2k was on par, maybe a bit quicker off the line.

Suspension was definitely on the rough side, and since there is always construction and potholes in my area, I don't think its the best driving environment for the s2k.

The blind spot with the top up is horrendous! I swear, I couldn't see anything behind me without using the side and rearview mirrors.

What I did like, and love about the s2000, is that...

The interior is not only luxurious (imo), its functional, and makes me feel like an f16 pilot. The black leather is wonderful, although its a very tight fit. I felt like I was sitting in a go kart (I'm 6'0)

The exhaust noise, in stock condition of course, sounds great. The engine is loud, as expected, but not in an annoying way.

Gearbox is better than my rsx, which is saying a lot.

The laguna blue pearl color is a thing of beauty to behold, and would definitely be at the top of my list.

Bottom line is, for the price, its a tough choice. Theres so many cars out there with more power, similar handling, four doors, and luxury in that same pricerange. I know I'm going to get a lot of heat for this, but I went into the test drive with preconcieved bias in favor of the s2k, and was definitely suprised.

What made you guys choose the s2k over other similar priced cars?

the fact the my 02 has NEVER had a single problem, while my buddy has gone through 2 350z's.

the simple fact that FWD sucks. the RSXS is a great car, its just wrong wheel drive.

If you can find a car that's more fun to drive, buy it.

The top comes off . . . that combined with RWD makes it an awesome package, but it's definitely sacraficing a bit. My g/f has an RSX and its definitely more comfy for longer trips.

My 06's engine note before vtec is a bit disappointing, way less whiny on vtec than the Ap1.

I think the ride is very good for a car of this capability. Gearbox is every bit as good as I expected.

Torque is much better than expected. This car's reputaion for low torque has been blown way out of proportion.

Yes the blindspots are bad, but you can work around that and it makes you a better driver.

Brake pedal lacks feel, but brakes are good.

high speed stability could be better. Steering is very good, but could be more communicative.

build quality is fantastic.

Overall, I love the car. Not as chuckable as I thought, but still a great sports car. As for value for $$, I think it's basically unbeatable.

Yeah, I guess I need to drive some other cars before making a decision. I've driven mostly hondas, acuras and toyotas my whole life (corolla, camry, civics, preludes, accords, gs-r, rsx, s2000), so maybe I've become essentially brainwashed with the japanese imports.

yep. fun factor is HUGE in this car. My bro has a 35k STi (about same price range) and its way faster stock, easier to corner, safer in the snow/ rain, has 4 doors, and EASILY can put out 400 crank HP for CHEAP.

Its just not fun to drive

Forgot to mention, I think the s2k is one of the most aesthetically appealing cars, in ANY pricerange, which is why I was attracted to it in the first place. Together with the honda badge, with it its reputation and quality, I thought it would be an unbeatable deal. Guess I expected too much?

Any other cars that you guys might recommend test driving, besides the usual sti, evo? Love the type S, but its time for a change..

Dude, you're funny, coming on an S2k forum and saying you "expected too much." I personally don;t think there's any car that competes with the S2k for the price simply because of it's layout and body style.

You might try 350Z, G35, Sti, Evo, Cooper S, Gti, R32 etc.
