I've had an Evo 8 and two s2000s... currently on my second s2000..

I bought the Evo 8 two cars after selling my first S2K and I'm back in an S2K.. The S2K is more of a driver's car in my opinion, and from a motorcyclist perspective, I love dropping the top and going for a cruise..

The evo was INSANE fast(modded) .. the S2K is fast enough but more enjoyable to drive for me

Thanks Yellow, that's great insight. I think I'm going to go with the S2k. I like the 50/50 ratio and driving with the drop top is great. I think I'd prefer fun versus fast. I do like the look of the Evo, but I still drool at the 2000s. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I really appreciate it.

LOL sounds like most of u that replyed know nothing about evos. The evo 9 puts more than 225-230awhp stock my 8 did that. The evo 9 is faster than the 8. Ok i have had both cars now the evo 8 and the S2000 CR.
Both PTuning AND Cobb dyno'd their Evo 9 MR at 225whp. I'm friends with the owner of PTuning, who drives an Evo 9 MR and his car made 225 on their in-house AWD Dyno. I actually asked him today when we went to get lunch during the lunch session for Time Attack.

And looking further into it, almost everyone that dyno'd at Buscher Racing put down 207-212whp with their Evo IX.

The highest stock I've seen has been 245whp, and there has only been one that high. Everything else is 207-231. So I'd say I was pretty generous by saying 225whp.

225awhp is about right for a stockish Evo IX on a dynojet. if it's modded with tuning i'd be a little concerned though.

i dyno'd 313awhp on a dynojet with intake, exhaust, downpipe, boost controller, test pipe, and licp with a solid tune.

made 289awhp on a dyno dynamics with the same mods and tune.

Welcome... Evo has great potential can get one very far in single bolt-ons and tunes. But then again EVOs has bad rep. Due of the drivers lol. S2k is well made car and probably will last you longer than the evo.

Hmm yea does depend on the dyno to. Dyno jets read the highest out of them all. But my VIII had cams and gears, intake, full tbe, boost controller at 22psi, ported exaust manifold and put down on 91 oct with a conservative tune 330awhp. But numbers matter very little to me the evos engine just reacs very well with few modsl. And there engine is bullet proof now some trannys and t cases are another story but in the end S2000 is way more fun. Get the S2000 and be happy i love mine and have 10k miles on it in the 6 months i have owend it

Can you give me some constructive advice, thoughts about improving mid range and low end power for the S2k
Don't count on being able to do so unless you're willing to go FI.

Again, spend some time on the track/autocrossing. Too many people are fixated on mods and performance enhancements when they can't even properly push the S in its stock form. You'll easily get lapped by an experienced driver in a stock Miata if you don't know what you're doing.

Well, I'm on my 3rd s2k , I've had an STI and Evo IX MR.

The evo as a performance car is actually fairly good. Handles great, great acceleration. The problem is Mitsubishi can't build a decent car to save their lives. Every time it rained my cabin had 2 inches of water in the passenger floor board. Several trips to multiple dealers and they never did get it resolved. I eventually fixed it myself, but it wasn't fun. Btw that was pretty common. Fit and finish is iffy, build quality is very hit or miss, your typical mitsu blunders. Engine was solid, tranny was iffy. Easy to make lots of power with a few $$ in mods and tuning.

If I was in the market for an evo type car, i'd get a 2009 WRX instead. Subaru build quality is MUCH MUCH better than mitsucrappy. I've been burned on two mitsu's now so I pretty much hate anything they make. My STI was a very well built car, just boring compared to a s2k.

Also the s2k's build quality is really amazing. It may be a bit "plain" in the interior for most people, but fit and finish is excellent. And the attention to detail and build on the mechanical side is just amazing.

The cheapest way to get more grunt out of an s2k is to pickup a used greddy turbo kit. Lots of guys sell them after they get a taste of the power for bigger turbo setups

The guys at EvoM will tell you to buy the evo.
