Default S2000 Vs. Other 2 seater coupes?

Well i'm a fan of 2 seater coupes, and i'm thinking of moving up. I'm thinking of something a little high end but i'm also thinking about parts and labor. Seems the more you move up in that class the more expensive. I'll give you a little history, as i am a bit of a tuner

1st Project
1990 Mazda Miata

Like everybody says, perfect beginner car. I did just the simple mods to it. Intake, exhaust, rollcage, and some Megan Racing coil overs. I loved that car to death even though it kept having issues.

2nd Project
2005 Mazda Rx-8

Although the car felt great, it felt that it was lacking power. Reading up on it at a later note, other people say that it felt that it could of had more. Now don't get me wrong, i think it had a baseline of 246 or something. Thought of forced induction of some sort, but never actually got through with it, i got rid of it before i did much more then the basics again, which costed a hand full for even the coil overs, (Tein Type HT's). I started quoting myself on other parts and it just got to be more then i wanted to pay. Also the maintenance for those things is pretty much crap.

3rd Project
1989 Nissan 240sx

Of all, this was the funnest. Probably because i've spent the most money on it. The first purchase was the SR-20 swap, which was 3000, then i gutted interior, put some FLT-A2's on it, Recaro, piping, offbrand 3in exhaust, HKS goodies under the hood (intercooling, piping, BOV, etc). after having it tuned it was putting out a little bit under 350hp and 320tq. Now maybe it was the torque i wasn't used to, or the platform, but i got in enough trouble with that car. Fun ride, but i was in a bit of more class. It was the fun weekend rider, but driving that thing to work/school wasn't really cool, especially when i'm in class or at work in a meeting and i can still hear the car on because of the turbo timer, haha, but anywho....

My style of driving is mostly gymkhana or "touge". I wanna get into track events, but i just never find time to locate events, and i don't like paying to have fun.

So, i'm thinking of a higher end 2 seater coupe. My dealership had an 02 or so Boxster that was sitting around for a while and i thought of picking it up. Had a lot of miles on it, and it was about 25k, i was just thinking of getting it, taking it apart and start from there. But if things didn't go my way it'd be a waste of money

Now i'm pretty much up for anything. Only thing that i don't want is a short wheel base. I often like playing with the weight of my vehicle and noticing certain characteristics of coupes and 2 seater or 2+2 combos.

I'm also thinking of just going on a budget and going old school 2nd gens. RX-7, E30 or any of those old school ones

I've blabbed on long enough, yet i still don't know what i want to do.

What do you think?

WTF does that mean? I tried googling- you like winding roads?

An S2000 certainly fits in with your former rides, and is a better car than any of them in my opinion. It will likely be much slower than the 240, short of adding FI.

I am also a big MR2 fan, and there was once a video posted on the forum entitled "mk1 gymkhana", it was a fugly mk1 drifting around in a parking lot.

his post confused me, sounds like he is asking if he should get a s2000 or a porsche, or something. I am thinking he would not be happy with an s2000 since it has not anywhere near as much torque as his 240. Sorry man.

all those previous cars are gone, got em, played with them, got rid of them

and i'm sure if i were to drop the same amount of cash as i did in the 240 in an AP1/2 i'd have equal or better performance?

i've driven my friends AP2 before. First thing that i didn't notice was the short gear box, haha, i kept thinking i'd shift into neutral. Almost like the rx-8, but it felt that i'd actually go into the next gear. Then the stiffness of the chassis/suspension, nice and tight. All my previous rides were pretty harsh for daily driving and i guess i've taken a liking to it?

i just wonder what else falls within the 30K +/- range thats worth getting

BUT THEN

i've taken a liking to some older coupes. I have yet to drive an E30/FC3S/MR2, but i wouldn't feel as restricted as i would in a higher dollar car

Well, I can assure you that the MR2 won't be as good at these mini-drift events, or autocross-drifts, or whatever you prefer to call them. I think front-engine RWD is definitely what you are after.

An S2000 certainly fits the bill, but with the lack of torque you will be working it hard to accomplish the task of mini-drifting at low speeds. If you are willing to dump some cash into a stroker motor and/or a blower, it would be a lot less effortful,

In that price range, you could also consider an imported skyline, a used M-roadster or M3, you might even find a supra TT for $30k but it would probably be higher mileage and beaten.

I'm sorry, mean no offense, but it seems that the best choice would be a used Corvette. High torque, modifiable, very high performance.
