Seriously considering purchase of an s2000
Hello everyone! Ever since its release the s2000 has been something I've been dreaming of owning. I was going to purchase one back in 2004, however I decided to purchase a TSX instead. It's provided me with a lot of fun driving on the road and the autocross. Now my lifestyle allows me to get a 2 seater and the s2000 is in my scope.
I've strongly considered getting a Lotus Elise as a 2nd car, but with my new condo purchase I figured it would be wiser to just sell the TSX and get an s2000.
Though I would love to own a high revving AP1 I'm sold on a AP2. There hasn't been anything that really caught my eye on the forum yet as far as color choices in the price range I want. (GPW around 19K)
I was browsing eBay and Autotrader and wanted to know if there were any tips on purchasing this car.
Namely:
How's the durability? I know it's a Honda but for those that have pushed this car around... how good is it after the 3 year 36k mile warranty? Will I need to replace parts left and right if I picked something up with high milage?
I saw one on ebay with about 41k Miles and a Vortech charger. Though I didn't want to jump right into a heavily modded s2000 I wanted to know what vortech's rep is on this car. (auction 270094127950). How much wear would that thing have put on the clutch, LSD, and engine in general? I'd imagine it would come with ECU (don't know if it's reflashed or full engine management). Is this a redflag sale I should stay away from?
I planned on keeping this car for about 2 years before moving back to a sedan or if I still have no kids.. something faster?
Thanks in advance and I hope I can make this place a home like I did with acurazine

I'd say you have little to worry about after the 3 year mark.
My first 00 model, was bought used in 04. I put around 80K'
s on it, in 2.5 years.
Replaced the clutch once. Otherwise no issues what so ever.
As long as you get a unit with a full service history. And continue to care for it (regularly check the oil, especially if you drive it HARD), should be a painless ownership.
My two cents.

i wouldnt buy a FI s2000 because you really dont know what that owner has done to the car. unless that person is on s2ki and alot of people can vouch for him/her. vortech is a pretty well known company as far as s/c's for our car. now that comptech is closing down, everyone may swing into vortech's direction.
Stock S2000s are very reliable - no common issues at all after the 00-01 years, so I'd say any 02+ will be solid (even 00-01 cars are great, but there are lots of TSBs and some other issues). FI'd cars are known to be less reliable because of the mod work, so I'd start with an unadulterated motor if I were you.
That aside, Vortech and Comptech are both quality FI systems from what I've read, but FI owners recommend you swap the diff with a strengthened unit if you FI. As fas as FI and the engine, there are no issues I know of.
I think you'll be happy with a stock S, and if you want to mod it, you can start from scratch and really learn the car and any issues that come from FI.
Also, GPW is hard to find on the used market - not many made, and people love them.

^ You want to sell yours
Thanks for the input, I am trying to get something by May, so hopefully someone will list a 04+ GPW somewhere along the line that's in my budget.
