I just get tired of certain AP1 owners feeling like they have to talk trash about AP2's all of the time. It makes it seem like they are secretly upset about newer models coming out. I don't think I have ever read a post where an AP2 driver was acting uppity and better than any AP1 owners, so why the continued hostility?
The article you mention comparing the two cars is interesting, would you happen to have a link or point me where to look for it (not doubting, genuienly interested)?
On the other hand, I must point out that the top S2000 finishers at autocrosses (take the recent SCCA nationals for example) STILL tend to be AP1s. This could obviously be for a number of non chassis related factors. Nevertheless we see a good mix of AP1s and AP2s intermixed in the results at nationals, again suggesting that the two cars, while different, still end up the same.
Also, higher redline = more power is not a theory, it is an equation, or rather a definition. Horsepower is defined as a product of rotaional speed and torque. The performance of an engine is not determined by it's peak horsepower, but rather its integral, therefore the double benefit of an extra 1000 revs. But I think you knew that
Finally, I must note that both of the S2000s I have bought used. One with 2000 miles from a Ferarri/Bently dealer (obviously well taken care of) and one with 75,000 miles off of Ebay. The second one ran just as well as the first the day we bought it, but obviously for a lot less! Moral is that you can get a good used car if you are careful, so don't be scared off, just do your homework.
I agree with you Red. Homework is a must. And no, I was not referring to you as a hostile AP1 owner... you said what you said with style, and it was not laced with animosity. I have read posts that were quite vehemently composed with thinly veiled contempt for AP2s, but none from you.
As for the video, I tried searching for it on Google, but I can tell you that it is one of the Hot Version DVDs. I believe it had a tuned S2000 battle with three cars, the one I mentioned earlier, and a blurb about NSX-R. I let my friend borrow it, and realized while reading your post that it has not been returned...lol.
Hah, its good. Alot of the stuff on there is fun, but it is pretty informative sometimes. They had one battle, and this one you can find on google by searching for "S2k Touge", called Battle at 10k RPMS that was very entertaining. I am sure it will keep your attention.
Thanks for keeping this civil, guys. I can't tolerate any more AP1 / AP2 bashing (and you guys aren't, so good)!
And, yes folks, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Some of my (and others') advice can be found by scanning through the FAQ threads at the top of the introductions forum and the S2000 talk forum.
Also, if you want a truly detailed discussion of changes for MY06 (and, thus MY07) AP2s, go to the under the hood forum and look at the stickied thread there which tells you everything.
Best wishes.
Oh, and I've said many times, the best model S2000 is the one that you put in your driveway!!!!

I bought a ap2 because it was new.Don't like the idea of buying a used sports car...you have no idea how the maniac/lunatic before you drove the car.for all you know he coulda been livin' in vtec land.
Peace
Peace
i love my car. i mean, id sleep in it, if it had more leg room, but i beat it and drive it like i stole it.
i wouldnt buy a used S... IMHO
It does feel a bit shorter through the Vtec range, but that is just one of the tradeoffs. More power down low, with less range. I have forgotten about 8k instead of 9k a couple of times in my AP2, admittedly bouncing off the rev limiter. I wouldn't say it feels too short though... I would just say that the power begins earlier.
