Thinking about selling my mr2 to buy my first s2k
Not sure what to do...I currently have a 1991 Mr2 Turbo...120000miles on her, and running strong. Mild mods, fast anf fun. Plus I dont see too many around. I love the s2k as well, and I've been thinking alot about buying one.
I would only be able to afford a 2000 or 2001 model. People have been telling me to stay away from the 00-01's...
What do you guys reccomend?
Any help would be great..

If you're on a tight budget make sure you can afford to buy tires annually, this is not a trivial expense. The car is tons of fun and if you stay with OEM fitment and summer tires you with go through rubber every 12-18 months.
I've got an MY01 and I see no real reason to stay away from them. Sure there are updates and stuff on the newer ones, but you still get the 9k RPM redline with the older ones, which I think anyone who owns an older one will tell you that that is one aspect that they would never change. I have had very few problems with my 01, and non were major.
Well, I sold my '91 SW21 and got an 04' AP2. I kept them both for about a year and finally let the MR2 go.
I liked the steering (non power) much better on the MR2. There was alot more room in it as well.
Even with the 5SFE, rears did not last long. The S is easier on the rears. I don't miss the MR2s over steer one bit. The S is much more predictable.
It took a while to get used to having all that car out in front. In the MR2, you couldn't see the front end. At first, I thought turn in was not as good but it was just the differance in driver location.
I really wanted a rag top. And the new MR2 was not doing anything for me so the S was the obvious choice.
If cost had been an issue, I would still be driving the MR2 I suppose. Now that I have got to know the S, I could never go back.

The MR2 is a great car - the first thing I thought when I read this thread was "I wonder what he's selling it for", but if money is tight, I'd stick with the MR2 until repairs get expensive. The S is expensive to insure and to buy tires for, plus as an only car in Canada, you'd need snow and summer tires.
