Hi, guys I plan on getting a s2k sometime soon but i have one question. Is the car safe in a rear end collision? ( i tried searching but didn't come up with much) because the trunk is so small which makes me think that my rear isn't very well protected..

 

its probably a relatively safe car. although i would have to say compared to the size of some other vehicles on the road the s2 would be fighting a losing battle if involved in any sort of accident.

 

 

what do you guys would be safer a 09 corolla or s2k?

 

I would take the Honda... I think the S2000 is acutally quite crashworthy, considering it's size. There are all kinds of pictures (out there) where the the driver has survived or walked away from a crash. I weigh the risk and make the best informed decision... with that said, I believe when it's your time; it's your time.

 

The size of the trunk doesn't determine rear end safety. A pocket of air is a pocket of air regardless of the volume.

The closest I've found to what you're looking for in a quick search is what the IIHS has but it focuses on head restraints:

It's like the common misconception that mass determines crash safety. More mass can help but there are plenty of massive trucks that test very poorly. A lot of soccer moms are going to be very disappointed when they get involved in accidents with their SUV's.

How are you currently assessing rear end crash safety if you're having trouble finding information? Or is this something you haven't considered until you started looking at the S?
