Value of AP1
well hes been rather slow at responding but i asked if he would be willing to trade for my much cleaner trans am + cash... if he wont budge or wants a lot with the trade ill forget it. if he can be reasonable, then i could work it out. i should mention that i have 2 mechanics in the family + we know an interior guy that told me to find one with a beat up top/seats so he would re-do them. even still, not sure if the negligence this s got is worth toying with it.. ill keep you guys posted
also, most other cheap ones around here are rebuilts or high mileage but i have time to wait for a good one to come my way

If he’s willing to deal, I’d get a compression and leak down test done. Be aware of any transmissions grinds or any noises from the diff (whines or clunks).
well thanks for the input guys. ill let you know what kind of numbers he might change for me. i can understand for the top and paint being bad though (seats too if the top was down a lot), the florida sun is brutal and will demolish anything that has to be parked outside for a while daily. by the looks im thinking 8500 tops? he claims its in perfect running condition tho so ill see... what turns me off the most is that febreeze bottle in the picture tho.... moldy or musky? hmmmmmm
What a beater, Jesus. That would make a good track car at best, I've never seen a S2000 that mistreated. I bet the clutch is shot as well, not to mention you'll need to change all the fluids, lots of body parts, top, etc. To get that back to presentable I'd be guessing it would cost 3-4k with you doing the work.
Walk away from that car, it looks to be in piss poor condition! To restore that car to good condition, you would be spending a LOT of money, and for that extra money you could get a much, much nicer car, such as a mint condition ap1 with very low mileage. If you are looking to spend only $10,000 you may not be able to find the exact color combo/ low mileage that may be ideal, but if you wait long enough and search often enough something much, much nicer will pop up (even in that price range). Heck, there was a yellow one with a clean title in my area that looked to be in nice condition with under 90k miles, for under $9,000. How people think they can get away with selling a car like that for nearly $10,000, I am not sure..but obviously they don't care about screwing over a buyer like you. As a side note, I sold this car for just $5,400 in 2011. It did have a rebuilt title due to a front end accident, but was properly repaired and was in pretty good shape considering--after I did $5k worth of mechanical repairs/maintenance.
Yea ill keep my eye open for better things to come. This thread may die for a little while because i think i just may do a little more saving. Kudos EricJT7 for keeping the firehawk alive (if that isnt a clone) they are a rare and cherished breed.
Here is my bird for cheers:

I personally wouldn't buy a rebuilt title for a daily, but maybe a hawk for weekend/show car
