Hey guys, im gonna buy my realistic "dream car" finally (black s2000) just as soon as i sell my 2005 black mazda 6 i sport. Man ive always wanted a s2k and im just so ridiculously excited i can't wait.
Anyways... i could use a bit of advice and your opinions please.
I know there are a billion threads ap1 vs ap2. Im not questioning which one is better. I definitely love the Ap2 more. I have driven both and both are amazing i just like alot of the little added things the ap2 brings.

Well my question is. When i sell my mazda i'll have plenty to get a nice ap1. But i really really want a ap2. Only thing is i'd be paying off the difference in price for a long long time.
I'd love to have a ap2! but buying a ap1 and having it paid off fully sounds tempting. I know if i got any s2000 i would be pleased, but do you think that down the line i would be kicking my self saying "damn why didn't i get the ap2?"

You are definitely starting an AP1 vs AP2 thread, but hopefully it won't take that direction

I have two points of view:

I have already accepted that I will have car payments for many years to come. Keeping that in mind, I'd rather have the AP2 and live with the payments.

On the other hand, running payment free on an AP1 might let you put something aside for an even better car.

I'd go with #2. The difference between AP1 and AP2 is not Boxster vs Carrera, it's Boxster vs Boxster S (if that, really) and neither is more coveted, it's a personal preference. Hardly worth toughing it out on payments unless you're getting an original warranty or something as well as it can be expensive to repair.

 

Go AP2... It's faster!
06 or newer, the ECU can be reflashed.
Just my 2 cents.
Lets hear it AP1 owners, it's your turn...9000 redline etc.

Yeah i am definitely leaning towards the ap2. But im gonna hate having payments. But i really like the ap2 sooo much more. My buddy has an ap1 and its great, but the glass window top, sick stock wheels, and nicer interior, lights, and bumpers of the ap2 makes it worth the extra couple grand. But we'll see if i find a deal i can't pass up i might get a ap1. man this is a tuff decision as ron burgandy would say "i am in a pickle"

 

I have always believed that it is worth it to pony up the extra cash for something that you really want. Never settle for something that is cheaper or that you don't want as much because it will be tough to live with the regret later on. It sounds like you want the AP2 really badly. If it were a toss-up and you could go either way, then I would say save the money and just get the AP1. But you seem to clearly prefer the AP2.

So if I were you, I'd just buy the AP2, even if it costs more (as long as it's still within the realm of affordability). You will be much happier down the road, trust me

 

OK, I'm going to take the alternative point of view here, if nothing else than to mix it up a bit. If you get the AP1, sounds like you'll have some $$ to mod it a bit and make it more personalized. Even if you don't do the mods right away, save up a bit. Also, MY02/03 have glass rear windows and leather consoles. You can even add some stock AP2 wheels and a front end and maybe be ahead dollar-wise. Whichever you chose, good luck and enjoy.
