Note Honda tweaked the car regularly during the production run. Mainly to cure the oversteer problems. Not surprisingly the later models are better drivers than the early models in many respects. The '06+ generation offers DBW (drive by wire) which allows power tuning without modifying the car or buying an aftermarket ECU. The amount of mid-range torque available this way is reason enough to look for that generation. VTEC at 3,600 rather than 6,000 rpm puts a lot of power on the road. Also has stability assist and traction control which will keep the car under more control when you get silly or inattentive. Purists can switch this off.

You may consider checking your local subforum to find a "mentor" that may be able to help you search and inspect potential cars.

As people have said the newer DBW cars are better cars but the older ap1's are better s2000's. Just depends what kind of experience you're looking for.
