What Would You Pay?
Rodan,
Have you seen the car since the vandalization occurred on their lot? See if you can eyeball it closely (and get inside the car) before they fix it up.
I would say there's no reason not to buy a car that's been fixed after vandalism. If you know what they're going to replace, you can see what they did and whether they did it properly.
I suspect the seats were just unbolted (it's easy to do without the McGard seat lock bolts), so there was probably no damage to the seat rails or anything. The top was probably slashed to get into the car, so they may have damaged the mechanism to by ramming/jamming it open... That'd need to be checked.
Another owner just reported seat theft (from his car) yesterday. Hate to hear that!

Thanks for the reply, Chazmo. I have not seen the car since they took the seats. I may ask the dealer to go look at it. I have to say that this does worry me - I don't want to buy the car and then be paranoid everytime I go out at night...
I've been on this board since 2001 and have been wanting to get this car for the last 5 years and I'm finally able to... but don't want to be driving a car I'm afraid to go out at night in for fear of having the car vandalized.
Do the black seats get stolen less? Should I look for a silver/black and call it a day?

I'll give you my opinion on this, and take it for what it's worth.
I'm 42, I lost my dad suddenly this year which feels like an open wound, and I've come to the obvious (to most) conclusion that life is f***ing short, Rodan. You have to live for today, at least when it comes to enjoyment / recreation. Buy the car, buy a set of the Kodokan/McGard seat locks, put 'em on, and don't worry. Drive the piss out of it, and I guarantee you'll love this car.
You cannot protect a car from thieves or vandals. If they want to mess with it, they will.
If you can't put the "worry factor" to bed, having the car won't be as enjoyable an experience.

Too true. Incidentally, I found another car and am currently in the process of working out a favorable deal. In fact, another member on the board might end up helping me by inpsecting the car visually before the deal is done. I live halfway across the country from the car's current location.
Once, I get the car, I'll get the McGard seat locks, put the car in my garage at night, and just try to enjoy it. I've been waiting so long. I waited to get the car when it first came out because I was in business school and couldn't afford it, then when I finished business school but could not find a job for a year, then through the next year, recovering financially and moved to Florida. The year after that my wife and I bought a house. Now, everything is in place and it's about time I try to enjoy myself. I can actually do it now while also being responsible about my other financial committments (B-school loan, mortgage, etc.etc.) Look forward to finding the right car and becomgin an owner soon.

Still no car. For unforeseeable reasons, the last deal fell through. Still on the lookout for a used Low mileage or New-Old-Stock 2005 in Sebring or Silverstone with the Red/Black interior, if you guys know of any. The good thing is, I'm in no major hurry and can wait 'til April if needed.
The saga to this story finally ends. Picked up a 2005 Silverstone with Red/Black seats tonight. I can't even believe it! Congrats to all the other new owners and see you out on the road.
