Default What's a fair price ?

My honda dealership finally got in stock 3 new s2000's, and two are the exact color combo and year model i'm looking for. A beautiful black/black '05. I'd prefer to stick w/ the '05s b/c i'm not a big fan of the changes made for '06. However the sticker price on the '05 is still way more than i'm willing to pay. Somewhere in the 34k neighborhood. I'm hoping that they'll be more flexible w/ the price now that '06 is upon us but i'm a little skeptical on whether or not they'll give me the price i want. I'd like to pay 28.5k but do you guys think it's realistic for them to cut close to 6k off msrp?? I dont have any experience haggling w/ salesman and i'll be damned if i let myself get persauded into paying that sticker price. I suppose the highest i'm willing to pay is 30k but then i'll still get the feeling that they're raping me on that price. So help me out guys..... Is 28.5k a good price that a dealership would agree on?? And if u could give me any advice as to how to get them to the price i want i'd be greatly appreciative.

It's a buyers market right now..

Offer them what you want.. if they don't take it.. walk. There are other cars out there.

You definitely can get your 05 for $28.5K. I bought my 06 3 weeks ago and only pay $300 over invoice with no dealer fee (30,633 +550 dest. +300 = $31,483). They still have 3 05 on the lot and coundn't even give them away.

well they weren't there until jus recently. The dealer here rarely keeps them in stock. I can only assume they're not high volume sellers.

I think 28.5 is low for a new 05, although I can't say I truly know your situation down there in LA. I doubt the dealer would just accept that price. I think if you get one for under 30, you'll be doing great. If I were you, I'd offer 28 and see where the bargaining goes. You might get lucky, but I'd expect to pay a grand more than you suggested, at least.

Actually, if I were you, I'd contact the internet sales manager at the dealer, name your price (28.5), and see what the reaction is.

I bought my 2005 for 29.5 two weeks ago. 4 dealers in NorCal were willing to sell for 29.5 - 29.6 . NONE would go any lower.

I was offered a new 2005 for $28.5k by a dealer in the San Francisco area this week so it's definitely possible. Especially with the 2006's + winter weather coming there are some good deals out there.

Maybe. Two weeks ago a SF area Honda dealer told me he could get me the Silverstone 2005 S2000 for under $29K. I told him I was on my way to see the car; however, he wanted me to give him $500 over the phone (Visa) without meeting him or seeing the car! The dude's story was sketchy and I suspect he was pulling some low ball trick. According to Consumer Reports under $29K would be a LOSS. I'm sure there are Honda dealers reading this forum. I'd be interested in reading why a dealer would take a loss on the S2000 in a mild climate for a popular color.

Newb here, first post. I got my '05 Sebring Red/Black two weeks ago for $28.5K in the Bay Area. I did exactly what Chazmo suggested: I offered 28, they gave me their whole invoice price blah-blah-blah spiel, I told them I was walking, and we eventually settled on 28.5. So it's definitely possible. Absolutely love the car, too! Good luck.

Under $29k is not a loss to the dealership. Remaining '05's currently have $750 incentive from Honda.
