Thumbs up Would it be safe mechanically to pick up an AP1?

Well the s2000 the heritage, the essence lies in what the earlier model does... 9000rpm redline...

but since the early models have been driven... and perhaps redlined and vtec-ed alot...
it will lose compression...

it is still feasible to pick one up mechanically speaking because getting an S that has lost to maybe 150whp isnt what i intend lol...

Coming from a 140hp Integra I feel confident in saying that my 02 S2000 has considerably more than 150hp I really enjoy taking someone for their first ride and waiting for the "OH SHI..." the first time I hit vtec. Look around the site for some recent AP1 dynos, I don't think they've lost any noticeable power.

These cars won't wear out that quickly, I promise. There are MANY nearly perfect condition AP1's available.

Find an ap1 one from someone who used it as a weekend cruiser...rich older wives are ideal candidates..seriously.

I have an 01 s2k... I just did a compression check this weekend and got 225 across the board. Which is pretty much perfect and I'm dynoing in the 220rwhp range right now (I am modded a little though). I got lucky with a non abused engine. I would just recommend you doing a compression check before buying an s2k so there is nothing to worry about. You mostly want consistency in each cylinder and hope fully above or at the 200 range...

and thumbs up for staying true to what the s2k is all about

You really need to find that thread about all the S2000's out there that have 100K miles and more. One of them even got a dyno lately and he recorded over 200 whp. I think you may be starting another "old wives" tale.
