Simple, when I am in traffic -- interstate or city, I do not want to bother with having to shift down two gears oif the RPM's drop below 3-4k.

I want to concentrate on all the idiots who do not even see me (driving the S reminds me of my motorcycle days) or do see me and do not give a f*** before they cut me off. More low end torque means more flexibility which means less attention to the car and more attention to the road on the daily drive.

Now the backroads, the mountains, or an autocross are an entirely different matter. That's when the great gearbox and 9k are very attractive.

So, back to my conclusion, the AP2 is a better (less demanding) daily drive. This is purely a subjective rather than objective (impossible when discussing the S) point of view.

OK, I take your point, but I think that depends on what you like for a daily driver. I'd say that the S isn't particularly enjoyable in traffic, regardless of the year.

I would have to agree that older S's do not like to be traffic but than again what car if any likes to be in traffic. The extra downshifting really only takes a second of two and you can still pay attention to all the ass clowns around you. As for the o4's and up looking better I like the rear true but the front I'm half and half on but you can always have the best of both worlds. Do a ap2 conversion on a ap1 and if you really want lots of low end torque turbo it . Later.

Mike.

So, my point about liking traffic is simply that some cars offer a lot of distractions, space and comfort for traffic. You're not going to be enjoying the radio (unless you go aftermarket). You're not going to have a GPS to play with (unless you go aftermarket). You're not going to have a nice large glove box to keep all your "stuff" to mess around with... And, well, manual transmissions are almost always sucky to deal with in traffic.

That's all. I agree... Saying a car likes traffic is sort of meaningless. But, with creature comforts, some cars are way more enjoyable to suffer traffic in than others.

I would have to agree before I was looking at the S and the Z I looked at a 2005 300c. Talk about comfort in traffic lol also with the v8 and 4 cylinder deactivation it runs what both the S and Z runs in the quarter while giving you the same gas mileage. I just wanted a youthful car so I went with the S hell I got 16 years til I'm 40 so I don't need to go comfort just yet lol.

Don't spend all your money on a new one...Save some $ for some go faster parts. I bought a 2000 Berlina only because it had 8,500mi on it..(MINT) wanted a newer one for things listed above, however, I wasn't going to pass it up. Just find a clean one!!! Best of luck.

yeah I like the body styling on the AP1s much better along with the motor setup - i like the suspension as well but snap oversteer does suck at times, eventually you learn to compensate for it though. I like the interior of the AP2s. I wish teh AP1s had the 17" wheels but with the AP1 5 spoke style.
