Yet another newbie post
Hi everybody, I'm currently another prospective S2K buyer looking into the car before pulling any major decisions.
Contrary to most, I'm actually looking at a 2003 S2K with approximately 85k miles if I do decide to purchase the car. Exterior wise, a bit banged up for 85k, something I expect. Interior, leather is wearing nicely and the guy I might be purchasing from is a good friend of mine and has been very up front about everything.
First owner was a very elderly man, enough to have a handicapped permit and ultimately sold the S2K at 45k miles. That was about two years ago and the car right now has 76k. However, like mentioned earlier, my friend projects it to be possibly 85k when he decides to change cars by New Year's 08. He tells me most of the miles he's raked on has been driving up and down the east coast jumping around his college, his parent's house down south and his girlfriend up north so pretty much all highway miles.
So far it's been mechanically sound, paint is somewhat dull but I can personally fix that without much issues. It's a silver (Sebring Silver I believe?) with black leather combo. The car lacks a key fob and floor mats. I've also been told that the weather stripping around the rear glass sometimes gets caught with the convertible top fabric and requires the owner to yank the fabric loose from it. He tells that there are no tears in the fabric and it is a mere annoyance. Brakes were changed before he bought it from the old man and the most recent check up at 70k has shown no issues.
So I want to ask you fine gentlemen how you view such car. I personally always wanted an '03 or higher just because it has the rear glass window so this is a perfect offer. However, I want to make sure, since there's no warranty lying around, that I won't kick myself for buying the car later on. Any big issues since the S2K was launched in 2000? I do realise that some members treat their S2k as a garage queen and this one has definitely more miles than others.
Price wise, it's pretty cheap as he bought it cheap from the old man too. Roughly just 14k he's asking for right now. Like I said, the only major thing I'm concerned with is how well it will hold up exterior wise and mechanically as I plan on using it as a daily driver.
Thanks

Higher mileage/Early MY S2K's may be a way to reduce initial cost. If the car has been well cared for (personal knowledge or supporting documentation), this may be the way to make a purchase with less apprehension. Just go over the car carefully and perhaps have a mechanic check it out. I have heard of a number of S2K's breaking the 100K barrier, some even running FI. Best wishes on your quest.
BTW, be careful with that "very elderly" stuff
hopefully we all get there
