the curse strikes again
my vacation in indy was nice, i really enjoyed the indy 500 and i also had the privlage to flip a quad and burn my hand (it will be okay) but it was nice ripping up the dunes because it has been a while since i last rode a quad. so i am cruising back through bfe in kentucky doing 67 in sixth gear (that is right, i was obeying the speed limit for once) and apparently my car didn't like it. it suddenly feels like the car is no longer accelerating so i apply a little pressure to the pedal and the rpms start to rise but the speedo still says 65 so i let off and try again. i bring it up to 4k and it is still not moving (at this point i should be doing over 80) so i let off the gas and start to make my way through the traffic to the shoulder. once i let off the pedal the car died. when i got it over i did the routine checks (once the car cooled i checked the oil, spark plugs, coolant, checked for leaks, checked for fuel pressure- keep in mind i carry a huge tool kit with me for these exact instances.) everything checks out good so i try to start it again and no luck. i make some phone calls and ask some questions and the answer i came to was my ems might have failed (aem 1052- one month old) i was pissed and arranged for a uhaul truck and a trailer. all i can say is i wish it was the ems. after getting it back to florida- the drive sucked, it was long and i couldn't go fast, plus a uhaul and a trailer is a lot bigger than the s so it is not too much fun to drive. i yank the valve cover off to find my timing chain had shattered- not broke but shattered. there are metal shavings all over the valve cover and the break in the chain looks really weird (not normal). sorry that was so long but i needed to tell the story.
so the moral of the story is don't break your car doing the speed limit, if you are going to break it, do it going fast or doing something cool. i still don't understand how the rpms still went up even though the chain was broke.
oh and another thing, if someone knows of any cheap beater cars for sale that run (don't care too much about appearance- but would perfer a pickup) let me know
