i could get the shavings out but i am pretty the valves were damaged and it would be easier but more expensive to get a new motor. about 10,000 miles ago i replaced most of the items on the head and spent over a grand and had to wait about three weeks waiting on parts.

how many miles does you 2001 have ? just curious . Sorry to hear the trouble . Possible tensioner caused problem?

it has a little over 78k. the tensioner was one of the first things that popped into my head as a possible reason but i just can't figure out how it would do it.

If the tensioner was ever removed, maybe somebody re-installed it without compressing it or removing the holding pin before installing, putting extreme tension on the timing chain. Ive seen a member on here got his engine messed up cause his local mechanic did this.

Its the only reason I could think of

That sucks I kinda know how you feel I lost a few engines before. Going back to NA is realy not so bad if thats what you decide to do.
