Default ARC Questions

How does the ARC intake compare to the AEM V2 Cold Air intake? I currently have the AEM, but I might switch to the ARC. I'm curious about the power gains to be seen, and the sound quality.

Thanks in advance.

Power gains -- 0 vs. stock. The intake also has a bad habit of heat-soaking (which is a problem as I live in FL) so I got rid of mine a while ago. It is a really baller piece though, and looks cool at shows but provides no real benefit, and is more of a liability really if you live in a hot climate (like Jacksonville gets).

I talked to a few guys in FL that have one before I bought mine, and it was 50/50 between "Yeah, it's a cool piece" and "Yeah, it heat soaks so I got rid of it". I would probably expect to lose power though switching from an AEM V2 intake to the ARC intake.

I have herd a lot about heat soak with the arc, but I got a good deal on mine. I drove my car for a hour at 80 mph yesterday. As soon as i stoped i poped my hood to feel my intake (so i would know what areas get hot to wrap with thero tape.) Even the area on the back side of the intake was only warm. I felt all over it and could not find an aera that was hot to my hand. Maybe it is because it is winter time that it did not get hot. But it sounds awsome and feels stronger than my stock air box with a K&N filter!!

Arc intake owner for 3 day now.

Dressed2kill - At 80mph there should not be much heat soak if any since there is air moving through the engine bay very quickly. You will experience heat soak during stop and go traffic or at a stoplight. Try checking after the car has been at idle for a few minutes after a drive, it might give you a better idea of where the intake heats up.

A while back some freinds and I dyno'd a couple different intake systems and the AEM netted the most power, K&N FIPK was second ARC was third and oem with K&N drop in was 4th. this was about a year to a year and a half ago. I dont have the plots anymore sorry . The tests were done in So. Cal. outside temp was 80 degrees and the runs were done about 30min. apart. done on Dyno jet.

I do like the look of the ARC piece (probably one of the nicest available)maybe with some thermo tape like described above you could prevent some of the heat soak (it would tarnish the look and value of the intake sytem though)
